Jacket and trousers don't zip together
wiffers replied to Pete's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
I sewed my zip onto armoured jeans and it works a treat. Used VERY strong thread and doubled up. Plus kept it as one long thread. Could od the same like others say -
Pls only comment if you have a Road Angel Plus, or know the answer Just ordered one, will arrive tmr. The fixings don't seem secure ... was wondering if they need modifying to fit (properly) onto a bike? I know they do a bike kit, but apparently this is more for the wires and headphone etc. I'm not bothered about that, just want a secure fixing. Anyone here got one as standard, or got one modified? How does it go? Thanks

I have a level 2 forcefield one for long rides (straps on back, full length), and a knox one in my jacket. Feels nice having it on, very secure, especially when I ride with both

You can clean fine, wash under a tap Headphone will be in there permanent , my putty was around earpiece
-
Oh, but mine are orange
-
I used these too mate - exactly the same I made 3 ... one for left one for right one where I inserted a headphone into my ear, then pushed putty around it I've had them around 4 months now They work great

For CBT (basics) plus afternoon on road 2 days DAS test fee, and 2 hour lesson before, and use of bike I paid £700

Experiences of the new test?
wiffers replied to XmisterIS's topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
I agree that it's a good idea. I passed CBT and DAS in 3 days ... but with a full licence I wasn't 'ready' to get on my bike. I think everyone should be restricted for a while. I think experience should play a part. Or at least high speed cornering and swerving etc should be part of the training. But it's easy for me to say ... I have a licence -
Put it another (logical) way ... let's just say your bike will sell for £200 as it stands. Assume you have no bike, and I came up to you tomorrow trying to sell you your bike for £200. I say "hey bill_on_a_bike, I have this bike, only £200. The engine is a bit shot, but do it up and make yourself a few bob" Would you take it, or leave it? If you'd leave it, then there is your answer. £200 is better than the bike. So you should get rid. Surely you wont need that uch space to strip and sell. Do it but by bit, and take bits off as they sell
-
I'd cut losses and get rid mate. Can't you strip and sell on ebay as bits? Tyres, fairing, seat, wheels etc ... engine ... surely people will pay for bits like that?
-
5 day course? That should be more than enough. Most people on their DAS to 3 days, including CBT ...
-
how many times dd it take you ?

Leathers - Arghhhhh

My kevlar red route jeans had a small zip at the back. I had a spare 3/4 zip on my jacket, so stitched that onto my jeans, now they zip together. Took a few hours as stitching is tight, I tied a good knot every few inches incase it breaks. Did 2 rows, one with an almost continous thread, the other with lots of smaller threads. The thread is really strong (can't snap) and double thickness. Now I can zip textile-textile or textile-jeans So long as you get same make you can usually zip together. i.e. HG-HG or RST-RST etc -
Helmet-£5 from a boot sale
wiffers replied to Bill_on_a_bike's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Hit him on the head with a baseball bat and tell him it's a warmup -
The armour in the Red Route is noticable, but it is not a problem. You could walk around with it. Or you can easily take it out and pop in your helmet/gloves. It's not as substancial as the armour in my textiles, but does feel good enough
-
.. not sure if the pocket for armour is the same on these, but phone the guy Terry, he's really helpful
-
The red route ones have pockets (with velcro) just like on textiles, so it'll stay in there fine, but you can remove easily. Perfect I think only the ultimate rider ones have a zip at the base. The other ones don't. Check these for example: http://www.riderz.co.uk/product_info.ph ... cts_id=651
-
My next step is to sew the zip for my jacket on to my jeans. That way I can have a "1 piece" ... much more secure
-
No mate - only Draggin ones I tried were the silverbacks, I looked at a few BUT as far as I can tell ALL of the Draggin jeans are missing pockets for armour. If you want armour, and don't want to have to remove it when you get off of the bike (it WILL fall out otherwise), then they're no good. I'd only get Draggin if a) armour isn't required b) you don't mind taking it out at your destination or c) you don't mind glueing it in place or making your own mods
-
The draggin silverbacks look and feel good. Only issue for me was the fact that armour doesn't fix in properly.
-
No worries Mr Miller Tried a few on, so if you need to know any more let me know

Update - the RedRoute arrived. They don't look quite as nice as they have zips at the ankles (although handy) and flexible knees (again handy). But armour is in place. Seem just as robust as Draggin, and a good fit, nice big legs. So - in summary. Richa - look best, like normal jeans. But tight fit, and don't seem that robust, very comfy Hood - not sure as I can't try them on, and need to order online, but got good reports Draggin - Armour isn't held on securely, their support advised me to glue it to the kevlar! But fit was good. If armour isn't an issue, they'd be good. Red route - build quality good, armour included. All good, only issue is they look like bike jeans, not jeans. All seem to have around the same amount of kevlar ... not much in it. In the end I got these in a 38" (a 36" may have fitted) http://www.riderz.co.uk/product_info.ph ... cts_id=588 Nice and cheap with armour included - £106 delivered Red route do other styles that may look better (e.g. http://www.riderz.co.uk/product_info.ph ... cts_id=651), but I was advised to go for the Ultimate Rider Terry at Riderz was helpful, spoke on phone for ages about jeans, measured legs etc. Would recommend Hunt over Oh yeah, also have pocket for hip armour, (not included). The knee armour (included) seems pretty good. Not as big as my RST trousers, but big and good enough, and in pocket so wont budge. Can be replaced anyway

I have a mate who is a cop on a bike. He rides to incidents and is an expert witness about accidents etc. (he drives bikes, HGVs, busses etc) I asked him. He said that at night time, you may get pulled if visor is down. But he said you'd only get pulled if you were doing something else bad, and that was all they could pin on you. He said that they need to measure tint with a special machine, which is hardly ever about. So the chances you get pulled by a car would be very very very slim. He also mentioned that the only people who may pull you are bike cops, but they again wouldn't do it unless you were riding like a twat. He said that a good reason (i.e. sun was in my eyes and glasses steam up) would suffice.I asked him about carrying the clear one. He said at night, yes, would be advisable, just on the off chance something did happen. But in the day, there is no point. He said that he wouldn't. He also added that most of his police biker mates wear tinted/mirrored visors. I know this isn't gospel, but handy to hear from the other side. However, if you had an accident it may act against you! I have a mirrorred visor, it says on it "for day time use only". When it's sunny I'll wear it, and not carry a spare.
