I'm most definitely nominating the driver of a red, series 3 BMW this morning. I left the Victory cafe on the mountain, on my bike and headed back towards town. As I got up to Brandywell I had this guy behind me flashing his headlights like a man possessed, it was a car full of young guys. My first thought was "nob in a BMW trying to impress his mates". I was very wrong, he stayed behind me, flashing his lights so I pulled over at Windy corner to see what his problem was. He pulled in behind me and gave me my wallet back. Like a complete tit I left it sat on top of my back box, got distracted talking and putting my gear on, forgot about it and rode off, it obviously fell off and he picked it up. Restored my faith in humanity "for today anyway" , total legend IMHO.

Couldn't agree more. Like you I certainly don't want an EV, couldn't afford one anyway. But I did drive one at work and was amazed at how quickly it could accelerate. The downside of that was basically consumption of power. The battery charge was indicated as a percentage on the dash, and the minute you put your foot down, you could literally see the charge dropping away before your eyes. I certainly wouldn't want that stress on a long journey, especially, for instance, when heading up to the somewhere like Oban to see friends, charging points seem to be few and far between up there.

Regenerative braking is also used on some hybrids, I use my wife's car as an example. When she first started driving it she found it was quite disconcerting, taking her foot of the accelerator with the ensuing amount of sudden braking. Not sure about full EV's, but I found in the settings, the regenerative braking can be reduced or increased to suit your driving style. I knocked the system down to 1 for her and it slows down now, when in EV mode, just the same as any other petrol car. But yes, I have witnessed what @Saul is alluding to myself, quite frequently. I also see a lot of EV's going down long hills with the brake lights permanently on. I now realise that they're not actually physically braking, but the car is in regenerative mode, and on most EV's apparently, the brake lights will also illuminate.

Yep .... pretty much what everyone else is saying, small kit with a compressor. Sits in the back box and just gets forgot about until needed. Last time I used was to help another biker out, stuck up at the car park, top of the Kirkstone pass. Invaluable bit of kit to have with you.

I'm currently using an innovv K6, very happy with it, seems to do everything you're looking for. Just fit it and forget about it. Not particularly that cheap though, and in my experience, the app can be a bit hit and miss.

Any decent apps for route planning? Gpx file creation etc?
manxie49 replied to AstronautNinja's topic in Touring
I have lifetime silver, which I got via a special offer. I initially had the free version. Special discounted price for lifetime cost me 37 Euro, I think it's normally about 65 or 70. -
Yep ...... Always have done. The only thing I won't ride in now is snow. Needs must unfortunately, I will sometimes get the comfort of the car, but thats only if the wife doesn't need it.

Another one here for the MRA app. I've been using it for some time now. Simple to use, I also plan the trips on the computer and transfer them to my Garmin without any problems. As my loving wife tells me "if I can do it anyone can" -
Video door bells recommendations- with recording.

Yes, it will, but if it continues to sense movement it will continue to record in 30 second clips. Our neighbour came into our garden to cut his hedge and I'd forgot to turn the camera off, I ended up with a whole load of 30 second clips to go through and delete. -

I use a Blink system, bought from Amazon. Cost me £145, it came with one wire free outdoor camera, one wire free video doorbell and one sync module. You can pay for a subscription if you want but you can also use it subscription free. You can plug a USB memory stick into the sync module and that will record all your video alert footage. I've had the system for a little over a year and still haven't had to replace batteries. You can download the app and get alerts to your phone and monitor the cameras from your mobile device. Easy to set up, straight forward to use, and the system can also be expanded upon. Video quality is also pretty good. Just type blink cameras into Amazon for a look. -
Welcome to the group @Lee76 and good luck with the shed find. I just love a shed find, nothing like a good fixer upper to work on over the winter months ....

I've used road 4's and 5's both of them were first rate, I really couldn't fault them in any way. As soon as the rubber rings on my Versys need replacing I'll be replacing them with Michelins again. I'm a year round rider so have used them in all weathers, and they never let me down. Definitely worth the upgrade IMHO.

KTM 250 XCF if you want a full blooded off roader or Honda CRF250, very capable bike for the green lanes with a few mods done. Personally I wouldn't go much bigger than a 250, bigger bikes are heavier and harder to handle, plus it soon stops being funny after you've had to pick one up after several drops in the mud. They're both four stroke as well. Two stroke machines are just mental and definitely not for the faint hearted

It was great fun and well worth the money. The team are all really friendly, and experts to boot ....... I hadn't laughed so much in years, even when I was falling off

As @Mickly said, they cater for all ability levels. There were a couple of blokes on the course I was on that had never even ridden an off roader before. The training is all about doing things at your own pace, and more importantly having a bit of fun. I was definitely no expert when I went (and still aren't) but it improved my confidence no end. Good luck with the new bike by the way, be good to hear about how you get on.

I did two days with Ady Smith in North Wales some time back. Money well spent, excellent tuition and the team are a wealth of knowledge that goes a long way to keeping you shiny side up. You can use your own bike or use one of their KTM's. https://www.adysmith.co.uk

A little trick I was taught a few years ago, seems to work for me anyway, and is similar to what Rennie was alluding too. Continue to keep your head facing forward, but slightly avert your eyes towards the N/S kerb, works for me. I did hear some good reviews on some night riding glasses, I tried finding it, I think they were made by a company called Duco??

I didn't actually realise you could get points on your licence for a small plate. Thats worth knowing. I was pulled a while ago when riding off road, green lanes. I wasn't doing anything wrong it was just part of a spot check clamp down of bikes green laning to make sure they were road legal. The copper picked me up for the small plate and gave me fourteen days to rectify the issue. No fine or points. Maybe I was just lucky, in fairness the copper was actually ok.
