1. What places would you recommend an easy days ride from Calais?
2. How does the national speed limit effect it? I love my visor. For me it makes the difference between being comfortable and squinting. I agree they’re not enough for low winter sun but I use sunglasses then and flip the visor down over the top of them for the blinding parts, works a treat. I like that the visor is a halfway house because as you flit between sunlight and shaded road you can still easily see.
3. You could go Ed March style. Wing and bribe Although in Europe you’re likely to get arrested!
4. I have a strict policy of not sharing my chocolate digestives unless people refer to them as biscuits. Anyone that asks for a cookie is informed that I don't have any. And to be honest I wouldn't normally share my biscuits at all but I'm trying to train them to speak correctly and have some decorum, and chocolatey biscuity rewards are always a good motivator. I'm completely with you in not referring to a biscuit as a cookie but am I ok to refer to a cookie as a cookie ? I mean those big bendy irregular shaped things with choc chips in that are sold in bags of three. They can't be biscuits because they are only baked once whereas a biscuit should technically be baked twice . I doubt, however, that this process applies to all biscuits especially those mass produced on an industrial scale . Those oversized, oversugared abominations are definitely cookies. No upstanding British citizen (including the ones who use words like ‘zip tie’ or ‘bugs’ ) would ever come up with such an OTT creation.
5. Lol I always say we’re definitely somewhere and it’s next to something so we’re fine.
6. S-Westerly Good luck matey it takes some adjusting to. I’m hoping you’ve got soft open ear plugs so you can still use your natural hearing and the hearing aid is used to top up? Either way perseverance is the key. I was 37 (9 years ago) when my hearing loss occurred overnight (yep overnight, had a virus, woke up and realised I was almost completely deaf in one ear then had the shock of discovering there was significant hearing loss in ‘the good ear’ too and I really didn’t take to the hearing aids well, a horrible din that makes everything loud and the solid moulded plug on one side made my ear sore. It took weeks to adjust but it was well worth it in the end. I suddenly understood the deaf ladies and gents I saw at the hospital who were exhausting to talk to because they were so deaf saying “yes Ive got hearing aids but I don’t get on with them” I would say I’d be lost without my little plastic friends but it’s really rather lovely to take them out and have real peace n quiet and I confess to saying “I can’t hear you my batteries have gone flat” when I’ve had enough of listening to someone
7. Spent most of my life misplaced so that’s a fit
8. I like it in the way I like the farmer approach (if you can fix it with a stick and some bailer twine the jobs a good’n) but I’m far too lazy to spend the time writing it all out. I use this- https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07798GW1T/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this process- 1.Stick phone on bike. 2. Tell google maps where I want to go. Do I get lost using that method? Hell yes but I don’t mind getting lost so it’s a win
9. Mines the same whistley noises they use in a hearing test so that buggers that up! Did I hear it... hmm dunno maybe it was a slightly different noise to the tinnitus... hmm I think I’ll click... wait has it stopped or am I too late to click... aaargh. Meanwhile the audiologists face starts to screw up into a ball BTW meant to ask is the hearing aid thing new to you? Different hospitals have different quality stock. My current hearing aids are up there with the best and they were nhs which they let you purchase add ons like Bluetooth boots and they sort it out for you. It’s worth asking about, if they are needed for work you can get them.
10. Nope definitely not mentioning biscuits and will get straight back to the topic...
11. Today I was watching a useful instructional vid on YouTube and in automatically rolled onto another one that was a completely unrelated ‘life hack’ - they rolled up their sleeves. That’s it, there was no more to it, it was presented as a fashion statement
12. Did someone mention eggs? Did they get salad cream this time?
13. I’m sure you’ll get some disapproving comments from that fessing up but even so
14. Winter- after 10/11am so it’s warmed up a little. Summer earlier but also found Sunday 3pm and after it’s quiet, probably due to what fastbob said so I might try out later on Saturdays too. Weekdays I avoid the rush hour and rarely bother with Friday afternoons cos drinking in other peoples exhaust fumes doesn’t appeal!
15. Yep that’s the face
16. SometimesSansEngine they look similar to one of my pairs where you can take the filter out and switch it for a different kind which is well worth it. I have filters for shooting and plain plugs for blocking out everything as well as mobike filters. One major advantage of that type is the filters can be removed and the plugs washed (unlike my fixed filter ones from the hospital at 3X the price ) which doesn’t seem important when you first get them but anything you repeatedly shove in your ear is going to need cleaning at some point or it will block up. Worth shopping around, prices vary quite a bit.
17. Nope I’m guessing they’re ridiculous!
18. I have hearing aids for hearing loss and tinnitus- high pitched whistling It’s no fun, wearing good ear plugs is a no-brainer. Customs ones with filters are best, you can still hear the engine but they cut out the dangerous bits. It’s one of those things people only take seriously when it’s lost.
19. That sounds more like the right price. There’s definitely some cashing in going on. They’re asking waaay over the odds. I do like them but I’m not sure I could ever imagine wearing them!
20. Maybe it was the Aviakit label then Thanks Mike, I obviously hadn’t looked into the website deeply enough. Wish I hadn’t seen all those different coloured leathers!!
21. That looks like the one that was in the wardrobe! Although I don’t remember the bottom strap/buckle bit Its making me want one but my goodness they’re not messing about on price! edit- I do remember the fantastic lining material though
22. So glad I missed this thread
23. goat Lol there’s living the good life and then there’s living the good life! I cure pork for our breakfasts (no nasty nitrates for my boys oh no) there it is bobbing about it a brining solution in the fridge for days n days before being cooked (and gobbled up) but I just experimented with poaching a joint with nothing done to it, then sliced n sprayed it with a salt and maple syrup solution “oh my god this is amazing” I’ll be going with the modern method!
24. Well Thankyou very much. Suddenly dawned on me I don’t know if he had anything to do with the ace cafe. He definitely used to race between cafes, transport cafes rings a bell. I do remember him saying at the time they were the only leathers thick enough but I can’t believe the prices were that high then because he wouldn’t of payed it! Tanning- I’m aware of the old process and the marvellous saying for being broke “haven’t got a pot to piss in” - the payment for your valuable ‘waters’ ability to break wool etc down. I bought some leather slippers in Spain a couple of years ago (they’re probably from Morocco) and they’re still stinky unwearable now! As some of the most successful perfumes of all time are made using animals anal secretions ( ) I can live with a bit of urea trampling Thanks for the ad fastbob I’ll go with D Lewis.
25. Bit of a long shot but you never know one of you sage ol’ duffers might have the gen My Pa’s white silk scarf is now many shades of yellow so I thought I’d surprise him with a new one. Both the Lewis Leather logo and the D Lewis label look very familiar but I don’t know which one was most likely to be hanging in his wardrobe- when I was around 6/7 I used to get in his wardrobe and shut the door becasue the leather smelt amazing! His bike clothing then would have been from the late 60’s/early 70’s and I’d like it to get the nostalgia right. Any ideas? https://www.lewisleathers.com/productinfo.html?code=SilkWhite https://www.lewisleathers.com/productinfo.html?code=DLWhiteSilk Edit- Why did they have to change the tanning process, it just doesn’t smell the same anymore?!
