1. Not into regurgitating quotes because unless it’s a good’n I always feel it’s one dangerous step away from having a crappy groan worthy motivational poster but this fits (can’t remember who said it) “Some of the people who are showing off their speed are headed in the wrong direction.”
2. The journey over concerned me most but you made it there ok Hope you sleep well
3. 500metres from the beach sounds ideal. I reckon you’re both going to have a great time.
4. Jeezus. That sounds frightening. Hope you’re ok. Another step in the dahscam direction me thinks.
5. Thought we were discussing plants, not South American countries...... Anyway, your tip about the razor is spot-on - only thing is, it's my razor that always seemed to get used for that particular job......Nothing like staggering into the bathroom for a quick early morning grooming session with a previously pristine Wilkinson Sword and emerging 2 minutes later looking like you'd done ten rounds with Sweeney Todd.......dunno about a styptic pencil, some days I needed a bucket of boiling pitch to staunch the wounds..?? It’s just taken my tired brain about far too long to figure out “South American countries” lol Made even funnier by how long I’ve sat here looking confused
6. I too prefer the use of a gardener and point at it method. Worked everytime so far
7. SometimesSansEngine Repeated experience in a particular environment definitely skews your view and is often not representative of the facts for example when you work in an eye hospital it would be reasonable to assume the vast majority of the population are diabetic because over half the people you see are. Or that old people die in hospital because older folk ARE more likely to die in hospital than young folk- in reality over 90% of people die at home. I’ve always been someone who wants to know “how do you know that?” which some people find offensive, like they are personally invested in a particular thing being true. I’m not suggesting for a single moment that’s you (quite the opposite) it’s just an illustration of how hard it is to get to the bottom of these things. It’s surprising how often one dodgy looking study funded by someone with a vested interest is taken up as fact. The pharmaceutical industry is utterly reprehensible on this one. ps a bit of anecdotal evidence that means nothing- one of the forklift incidences I saw with someone wearing steel toe cap boots resulted in the forklift climbing up the sturdy boot and breaking his leg instead! oldgrump sounds like you had a lucky(ish) escape. I did look at my bike and think ‘hmm that boxer engine might be quite handy if I ever get t-boned!
8. SometimesSansEngine Had to read that a couple of times because at first I thought you were calling your wife bulky! I thought he’s going to be in trouble for that comment! My 125 is happy up to 65 and can manage 70 but not uphill or in stronger winds! Like someone else here said it’s the length of time they take to reach those speeds that causes the difficulty with other drivers.
9. My top tips for hedge trimming is be prepared to spend money- use a new razor (preferably a triple blade with a lubricated strip), a mild but good quality shaving gel/foam and don’t attempt anything elaborate after two or three gin and tonics
10. The forces necessary to crush a steel toe cap boot would leave your feet an irreparable mush without the cap anyway (I’ve seen that one- foot under wheel) which is blurgh. I ve also seen twice now forklift over foot and their feet were ok (broken but but fixable) so I’m not convinced by the steel toe cap being bad argument. Maybe they have seen some guillotined toes in RTA crush scenarios but was this weighed up against the damage they would have sustained without them or how many times steel toe caps have saved peoples feet? Happy to be wrong but I just doubt it.
11. Done it. Not once but three times
12. This is probably a sin but I’ve never seen scarface! Enjoy
13. Eeeek. Starting to sound and look a little like an episode of Benidorm I’m sure it’ll all pan out fine but if it turns into something more eventful than desired it’ll be an experience you’ll remember (and eventually laugh about) for the rest of your life! The very best of luck.
14. Which you rode through under the speed limit I trust
15. Yep, Netflix........with regard to the EE, all I will say is Talos IV......... I did a cheety google and am now having brain strain trying to recall the episodes without reading it all..... damn it speedy.........
16. It’s too much for my tiny mind Where am I heading to watch series one episode one of the new Star Trek? Is it Netflix as well?
17. 20 degrees all week. How’s this person you’re going with at riding pillion?
18. Possibly not deserving of the nicety ‘lady’!!
19. Same here! I snapped these the other night I was bullied by @Slowlycatchymonkey to go take pics pretty impressed with how they came out By jove that is art. Art worth seeing. To think of all those knives handed in to the police and what they may have been used for before compared to what they’ve been turned into..... well there’s not a word for it. Bankys’ oxymorons are ‘kapow’ but this packs past that punch.. and is beautiful.
20. Ah yes now your talkin’
21. Partial to a boiled egg with a bit of salad cream. Granny though... good god not yet! and its even better with the rest of the salad Salad? Blasphemy....
22. I'd say it's as bad, or possibly worse. I just wanted to be an engineer. And my college were fairly horrible about it. When I was a 16 year old kid, I was getting A's in physics, it was known I could rebuild my motorbike as I used the school workshop to do it, and my systems project was a remote control car with regenerative braking and radar activated brakes while they were still just an idea for commercial cars. But, because I competed in climbing competitions rather than chess competitions. I did parkour, photography, and I wrote for a couple of blogs as a travel writing/vehicle reviewer. They saw these as, and I'm quoting one of my teachers directly here "council estate activities". No applause for the variety, it was "you aren't university material". This did cause havoc as I hit my rebel stage around the same time, and decided to f**k everything off. You'd think teachers would understand the stages some teens go through but nope. Luckily I resolved to do it myself, and by 22 I was given part funding to go to university on a distance basis. So I got there in the end, even if it was partly fuelled by wanting to add those teachers on linked in as a subtle F-U It beggars belief and so saddening to hear it still happens. Glad you made it where you wanted to be in the end “Not for the likes of you” bollo should have died in the 50’s. It’s saddening to hear someone who’s taken a role to educate and uplift a young person use it to squash them because of their own bitterness. A good teacher or mentor is a life changing thing but the ones who think their only job is to judge and critique (not enable and enhance) should go find something else to do. I always wonder how a careers advisor ends up in that role? Its certainly not something you set out to do in life is it? They also seem to have no experience of any discernible career or any real knowledge of them. I’m no fan of Robbie Williams but I heard a song of his where he has a go at ‘sir’ putting him down and I have to say his sneery tones were most enjoyable
23. Hi emmajaneg These folk (including me) definitely aren’t trying to advertise to you. They just have some experience of how insurance companies behave and are concerned you don’t end up on the wrong side of things- like they have in the past. There’s not a vested interest although I can see it might look that way to you. Assuming your insurance company is on your side is a lovely outlook to have, one I also used to share until experience changed my mind and that is what motivates all the comments for you to get help. Buuuutttt (not your sore one lol) if it’s not what your wanting to hear and you just need some light relief then so be it Maybe just have it in the back of your mind somewhere..... A get well card for you
24. Whaddaya mean, "seem"? I live in hope there are some good ones
25. My insurance automatically came with no cover for pillion riders and no cover to ride other bikes The whole insurance industry needs to be held accountable to better agreed standards that are enforcable in law with the overhaul involving a regulatory body that has some serious teeth and financial penalties for companies that shaft their customers. They seem to be a den of rats.
