  1. When I bought my 125 it only had 1 mirror on it, the dealer said it was only required to have 1 by law but he chucked another one on there for me anyway when I bought it. Mayaswell have 2 though, they don't look too bad and have a fairly good use.........
  2. I would love to go to the Ponderosa tomorrow but I am working all day
  3. I was told on bith my CBT and DAS that it was the same as not having the chin strap done up on a regular lid, I doubt any copper would be able to produce a peice of legislation that proves it right or wrong tho.....
  4. They are pretty big you know sand blasters. Can't see it being too expensive to get someone to do it for you. Do you live near an industrial estate/park? Is the exhaust already off the bike? Do you have a car? If its yes to those questions then go for a quick drive and just stop at some smaller places and ask em, if there not busy they might just do it for free or bung a tenner in their sky rocket.........
  5. Well we can all count ourselves lucky we already have a license, another insentive not to lose em I suppose.......
  6. I seriously hope that's bullsh*t. My point exactly. I think that illustrates perfectly why this is a worth while test. I could be misinterpreting what you wrote, but it makes it sound like you weren't taught to counter/active/push steer. I'd possibly agree with that one The instructors one isn't bull i'm afraid! Both of em said they had to practise a few times to get upto the required speed. not that they didn't have the ability but I think it was more nerves of pinning the throttle out and then swerving, they did say that the new advanced test for instructors requires you to do it at 60 which they have both done, they get a much bigger run up and run off of course! I think you were misinterpreting what I said, it wasn't that I did'nt know how to "do" the swerve its because I wanted to check what my speed way because I didn't want to fail for going 2MPH too slow, It only takes about 2-3 seconds to look at the speedo and register what it says but it also only takes about 3 seconds to go from the corner to the swerve box which meant I rushed it and cocked it up good style!
  7. I failed my first MOD 1 because it was raining and I didn't stop in time after the swerve, The thing that really annoys me is I did the E stop straigt after and stoppped with no problems, the annoying thing about it is I obviously showed I could do the E stop as I did it fine without the swerve. I might get flamed to death here so I will hide behind something fire proof, I also came off on my second go. As I was coming up to the swerve I looked down at the speedo and when I looked up I didn't have time to lean and swerve so I turned the bars (< mong!) and jacknifed myself over the handle bars. If the area was bigger and gave us more chance to get upto speed then there would be time to look and check your speed, as it is now you are under pressure to get upto a minimum speed in a short space of time then swerve and stop. The swerve itself is easy, its getting the speed up which I feel is the killer. Two weeks later and £260 lighter I went back and re-did it, aced it this time with a speed of 58KPH. All of the tests I did I only incurred 1-2 minors (and the majors obv). I'm not sure if the test itself needs to be changed but a bigger run up to take some of the pressure off would certainly help alot of people. And to all of the people who said if you have difficulty doing the swerve then you should'nt be on a bike, both of my instuctors said it took them a fair few goes to be able to do it at the required speed and they have both been riding and instructing for the best part of 15 years.
  8. Gosh this thread is a bit old now, I ended up gettin an XJS6F instead. Pretty glad I did too, I parked next to a GSXF in old blue and white the other day and lookin at the two next to each other the XJ looked much better!!
  9. Could be because the rev range in fist is smaller than the rest of the gears so the engine braking is much harsher than in a higher gear? I know mine jumps forward when I go from neutral to first but not into other gears.
  10. Agreed, the questions he has asked are a little simple and can be found out with a simple Google/forum search, but this is supposed to be a nice friendly site not like the eliteist specialised bike forums out there. I know none of you are doing this with real anger or anything towards him and its all a bit of fun but it doesn't look good to other newbies or people that are lurking and deciding weather to join or not. I see it far too often on other boards where someone come and has absolutley no idea about the subject they are asking about and people jump on em like a bunch of wolves, I know it puts me off when I look around! Not starting any arguments here, just puttin my 2 cents in.........
  11. Helpfull as usual there Vic.........
  12. I am sitting in work work now wishing I was in northwich wathcing old bikes hammering round a car park, Maybe I should go to tesco at 5 when its closed and re-create my own version? Anyone wanna come?
  13. I had a little blast on my mates 955 the other day,a yellow one, very nice bikes. Don't think I could do the super sports position for more than an hour tho. Go for the black one unless you can find a white one, that looks the mutts nuts......
  14. Does it matter what size your bike is? any speed over 20 is gonna result in some serious road rash if you come off, anything over 40 is gonna be even worse.....
  15. Really, a thunderstorm? Just a bit of light drizzle here in the Deva.....
  16. Are you talking about doing lifesavers for a test or just in general? If its for a test then lifesaver (both sides), Mirror then one more lifesaver the way you will be turning, If its just a general question then alls you need to do is make sure you are sure its safe to turn, if that means doing 10 lifesavers then do 10!!
  17. Saturday dagnam it, I just realised saturday is my gf's birthday so I already lot it off, don't think she would be too happy if I told her I was gonna go and look at bikes all day! I doubt ill be able to get the sunday off as s already have bank holiday monday off to go to Oulton. I really need to start writing dates down coz I have a memory like a siv and keep forgetting to book days off for things like this! ill try to get it off but I think its gonna be another year before I can go to the thundersprint!
  18. I was gonna put a post up to ask if anyone was goin to this, I have'nt got the time off work yet so if anyone is going to go then let me know so I can book the day off work and we can meet up!
  19. I think that is the best plan, like I said, make the mistakes on a smaller bike and the consequences should'nt be as big............
  20. I actualy prefered being on a 125 for the bast part of a year, make your mistakes on that. Lighter and cheaper bikes to drop, scratch or crash. Also get 1 years NCB and the difference will be mahoosive when you get your first quote on a 600+.........
  21. It sounds like you should be OK mate, Just don't over thnk things too much. I still get that swirly feeling in my stomach when I think back to doing the MOD1. Once its over and done with you will never have to do it again (unless your a naughty boy!) Good luck for tomorrow EDIT: Just realised you posted this yesterday so good luck for today..............
  22. The sound isn't too good but for £20 the video is pretty good, You can always edit the wind on the sound out afterwards too.........
  23. Yeah , but now there gonna release it. That and I did'nt hear about it 5 yeas ago
  24. Looks like its only gonna cost $400 too, Might be able to pick one up over here for just over £200 if they get released........
