  1. Do you still have your spare engine you could use for bits?
  2. Replacement turbo's if I remember correctly.
  3. Welcome from sunny Yorkshire.
  4. Just in the house for a brew, I have managed to almost red line it by pulling on the choke and blipping the throttle its still starved of fuel but a lot better than it was. I am almost there with it now but dont want to rev it with weak mixture as it soon gets hot and the fan comes on. I dont wnt to melt a piston after all the work I have done.
  5. A bit more done today, fuel level check done and both carb floats are a bit out of adjustment. The fuel level is about 6mm above the float chamber flange. (about 6mm above the level it should be) A vacuum test shows both carbs synchronised and reading 7.5inches of vacuum, on my gauge that reading is in the red and says I have a leak somewhere. I have taken off the carbs and put my palm over the inlet port on the engine and spun the starter, There is plenty of vacuum on each cylinder, if I left it there long enough it would suck the blood out. Apart from correcting the high fuel level issue I am just about beat with it if I am honest. I do feel its still something simple that is staring me in the face. I dont remember ever admitting defeat with anything mechanical like this in all my working years. (I have probably been very lucky)
  6. Got to say I really like the look of the CBF 250
  7. There is one on Ebay Bob spares/ repair today £350 close to you. I couldn't see it . Got the link ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ER500-A1-For-Spares-or-Repair-Location-South-Leicestershire/114349438002?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225114%26meid%3D91034fdf19eb4303806a05c750bfa5f6%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D114349438002%26itm%3D114349438002%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Acc79d8c6-dba7-11ea-a0e8-74dbd1802a23%7Cparentrq%3Adc82e40c1730a9cb2cf10e5effffab90%7Ciid%3A1
  8. I'll have it ! I really want another ER5 . There is one on Ebay Bob spares/ repair today £350 close to you.
  9. Just what I was doing before it got dark tonight. I have one drain plug free and turning the other is not wanting to come out. Will get it out in the morning and go buy some Aerostart to hopefully keep it running above 3500rpm. I tried to run it on brake cleaner but it didnt like it and stopped. Thanks john.
  10. Forgot to say using the choke doesnt make it run rich. I didnt touch the choke mechanism when cleaning neither did I separate them. I only took off the float chambers and checked the condition of the diaphragms.
  11. Ive just typed a load of text and some how lost the bloody lot. Ive looked at both carbs with the air box off and cant see the needles being lifted by the diaphragms when I slowly rev the bike. If I blip the throttle hard both needles lift a few mm but not really enough for the engine to run on the main jets. It looks to me as if the engine never gets onto the main jets and is running on the idle jets. It makes no difference if I put the airbox on or leave it off.
  12. Bit more done today, I found the idle jet of number one carb had something blocking it, I must still have dirt in the system. cleaned everything as best I could and now have the engine running sweet on both cylinders. I have put the airbox back on with the new filter but still short of fuel and will stop after 3500 revs if I let go the throttle when it bogs down it will come back to a sweet tickover. The float height is set at 17mm with the carbs off the engine at 45deg Does this sound like a float height issue, are they closing too soon and starving the engine of fuel?
  13. Hi all I am riding a 2003 Fazer Foxeye 600. I am in my mid seventies and am finding the bike a bit heavy. Its only 180kg so not a heavy bike as bikes go but would like a bit lighter machine. I love the bike and am prepared to stick with it but open to suggestions for alternatives. I wouldnt mind going down to a 250 as I dont ride very fast but I do like the acceleration and power the Fazer gives. Ive done a bit of research but nothing jumps out at me as suitable as a lot of less powered bikes are just as heavy as the bike I have. I am not too bothered about being the first away from the lights but dont want to look stupid having to tuck back in every time either. Maybe what Im looking for doesnt exist. PS Dont want Chinese or Italian. Thanks John.
  14. I have one they are not cheap but a brilliant stove, I wouldnt go back to gas now.
  15. Thanks all, I have taken the carbs off today and checked for blockages in the galleries, all seems ok. I have made up a solution of washing up liquid, washing powder, and a bio sachet. Set a steel container on a Coleman stove and nearly boiled the water for a good 20 mins with the carbs immersed. Leaving them in the potion all night then clean with clean water and compressed air in the morning. I synchronised the carbs as near as I could before fitting them to the bike, they look as close to perfect as I can get as this time. Will report back tomorrow but to be honest I dont think ive done any good at all with the cleaning, I haven't found anything to stop the bike running correctly. The floats and valves are set ok the floats measure 17mm and are not sticking. If the cleaning does not help tomorrow I will be putting it back in the container and will chalk fu*k on it. I will have to get on with more important things. Thanks john.
  16. No I cant get the engine to run well enough to balance the carbs. I am going to tear them off again and give them a deep clean then balance.
  17. I must be getting even more stupid in my old age, I have to say I hadn't thought of that, thanks for the reply.
  18. Back on the er500. Ive put the carbs back together and fitted them. I have only one cylinder firing unless I cover the carb inlet with my fingers and make the mixture richer then it runs on two. It bogs down when I try to rev the engine and seems to be running too lean. I have checked both carb float levels, changed the coil packs around and fitted new plugs still the same. New carb gaskets and float valves fitted, all jets removed and cleaned and new air filter, it makes no difference to the running if I fit the airbox or not. I cant see any evidence of any split carb diaphragms or split hoses anywhere. I have done a compression test and see the cylinder that is miss firing is down a bit, its 100psi compared to the other at 112psi on starter cranking speed. The old bike isnt worth much when I get her finished and painted and to be honest the amount of more important jobs I have to do you wouldn't believe. Its only the fact that I dont like to give up on anything that stops me from breaking her for spares. Any ideas anybody? john
  19. Congratulations, like you I failed my Mod 1 but passed second time. I was 2 mph slow on the hazard avoidance. The Mod 2 I found ok and passed first time. Went from a Yam125 to a 2003 Yam Fazer 600 with 12500 miles. Love the bike, I think a used bike first after passing is the way to go, then decide what you really want later, but thats only what I think. jc
  20. Just bought this coffee and a 6 cup Bialetti stove top coffee maker. I think I have enough coffee now to last me 12 months
