  1. There is a good chance your fittings will be BSP and not metric. Very common available everywhere. Google BSP fittings. Hope this helps as they say.
  2. Running Bridgestone battlax bt 023f at the moment. Should I leave the front and buy a rear of the same type and spec, I have checked, they are still available?
  3. Hi all, I know riders have their favorites when it comes to tyres, what tyres should I be looking at for my 2003 Fazer. The front is over 75% good and from 2018. The rear is knackered. Can I just fit the one or should I fit a matching pair?
  4. Thanks for the offer, I wanted to spend max £50 I probably should have said that in the original post. I realize yours is worth more than that but I have bought two previously from Gumtree and Facebook marketplace very cheap. I am in no rush I am sure one will turn up to suit a tight arsed Yorkie.
  5. Hi all, topbox wanted big enough for touring. Need room for one helmet and other touring related items. Givvi or Kappa or any other quality box that will fit to my monokey base. thanks john.
  6. An easy option for me would be to just use my 60ltr Lomo dry bag and a Givi 48ltr topbox for solo camping. My soft panniers look too big for the limited space available on the Mk2 Fazer 600. Do you think I would have enough storage for tent, sleeping bag, mat, clothes, stove and cooking gear, etc. I have looked at the video by Stuart Fillingham on youtube, he seemed to have enough space but other videos show riders with luggage piled up to the sky
  7. Ok guys will go with what I've got, my camping gear is worth more than anything else, my new tent, Coleman stove, new panniers, sleeping gear etc etc. john.
  8. Thanks for the reassurance, I was thinking of stopping briefly eg. for a brew at a cafe and leaving the bike for a bit, I suppose I will have to pick my stops with parking where I can see the bike.
  9. Hi all, I bought some roll top soft panniers/luggage last year from Lomo. I have never used them. I have since bought a Yam Fazer 600 foxeye I want to keep and do a tour of France and Spain this year. I have just started looking for luggage frames but I am a bit worried about security. I bought them for short trips weekends away tent camping but am having second thoughts about a long trip with them, should I buy some hard panniers and sell my soft bags? john.
  10. There are a lot of videos on YouTube covering Mod 2. I just typed mod 2 bike test. Hope this helps as they say.
  11. Had some time off the ER5 what with Christmas and new year, cutting up wood, shopping, turning lazy and buying a 2003 12000 miles Yamaha 600 Fazer Bought it with a split headlight cowl, broken indicator, and front brake lever. Ive just finished the jobs today and took her out for a test run. This is the first big bike ive ridden since passing my test last September and must admit its like starting out all over again. Most of last years riding experience has disappeared, I have no confidence cornering, feeling pissed off if I am honest. I am hoping it all comes back this spring with a few more miles under my belt. As a new rider I must say this bike is awesome, I can't see me needing anything better, newer, or faster. The clutch and front brake levers seem to be set too steep, I have to reach over the bars to get to them. They seem to be in the right place and look very original with nothing bent it looks like the last owner was riding the bike like that. I'm going to rotate the bars back towards me in the morning and see how we go. The bike has been down the road but has sustained very little damage. Will be back on the ER5 soon with more pics and progress.

    Jobs....

Good luck with the new job.
  13. Thanks everybody, will phone Green Flag first as I am already with them, then check out the other suggestions.
  14. Hi all, just bought a mint low mileage Yam Fazer fzs 600 from 2003. I was thinking I might tour parts of France and Spain later this year. Can anybody suggest a company that covers bikes as old as this for breakdown. I am with Green Flag for my cars but they seem to cut off at 15 yrs old. Should I just go without and wing it? Thanks john. PS the bike has only done 12000 miles.
  15. Hi all, is it possible to have a few bikes insured by one company as and when you choose to ride them? If I had three bikes insured for only me to ride I could obviously only ride one bike at a time could I get cover without it costing me an arm or a leg? Has anybody got such cover in place? john.
  16. All machine screw heads drilled off and float chambers removed then seized screw stubbs unscrewed with mole grips. Waiting for parts now so took out the plugs and found a good spark. I then drained the oil and took out four ltrs !!! It's a good thing I ordered a petrol tap and carb float valves. I can't believe just how good the Michelin tyres are, they have been standing all these years and still look like new, no cracks or perishing nothing, they look like two year old tyres. Will keep updating as I go, tell me if I'm posting trivia and if I should wait until I get something more meaty to post. john.
  17. Thanks for the offer of the engine will keep it in mind but hope I don't need it I've taken off the carbs and am now trying to free them off, I have a couple of carb kits coming but the screws holding the float bowls are seized. I am drilling the heads off them then hopefully they should come out with a good set of grips. john
  18. Hi all, I put away this bike in a shipping container around 2002/3 I rode it a couple of miles and decided to ride it again one day when I passed my test and could ride it legally. Work and other things came first so it has never seen daylight until this week. It has a full fairing, twin lights and has done 48500 miles in black paint. I have stripped off the seat and bodywork and am going to take off the carbs as they are seized and will need cleaning. I put a battery on yesterday and couldn't believe everything worked lights indicators and starter. The engine turns over but only has good compression on one cylinder, I am hoping this will come back after it has run for a while. Will add pics if I can figure out how to get them off my dropbox, I have a file called bike on there but when I open dropbox from this forum it's not showing so will be back shortly. John.
  19. I've had another look at the ER5 this morning in proper daylight my (workshop is not very well lit) It didn't look as bad as I first thought so I took it to the power washer and cleaned it. I've changed my mind about whether to break it or put it back on the road after cleaning it I am definitely going to give it a light restore and ride it. I will start a new thread.
  20. This bike on Ebay inspired me to post in the first place. I thought it looked cheap and am surprised it hasnt sold. Maybe its the time of year or maybe there is only me that likes it. I have just started working on an ER500 1997 ive had a long time and still have a GS400 stored away so I really shouldnt buy another just yet but have a feeling I might regret not buying this one. john Let me know if you need any advice on the ER5 , I've done most jobs in these including an engine swap / build. As for the Yamaha , a US Custom in good condition is a rarity these days so it might have been very well looked after . HOWEVER , have you seen this in Seller's other items ? Would this be a better bike than the 650?
  21. I'm already in that group but had forgotten about it, am also in the Facebook ER group. Thanks for reminding me. john. Ok , my username is Earlsdon , what's yours ? Fifthwheel
  22. We pushed it into the workshop the rear brake wasn't seized would it go oval with just standing all those years? Should I start a new thread? It would definitely go oval from standing , it's corrosion between the wheel and drum liner that causes distortion . Start a new thread in the Projects section and I'll suggest a cheap fix . You could always join the ER5 Owners Forum . That would bring the active members up to five ! I'm already in that group but had forgotten about it, am also in the Facebook ER group. Thanks for reminding me. john.
  23. Thanks for the offer, I started yesterday on the bike, I took a few photos including the mouse nest under the seat. The carbs are rusty and seized there is a lot of rust and corrosion. I have the engine turning over and can hear one cylinder light on compression this might come back after the first start I dont know. I am about to remove the carbs to free them and clean up. To be honest I am still not sure if I should carry on with the restoration or break for spares. Parts list to date and by no means final are tyres, battery, petcock, rear light, fuel hoses, regulator probably and repaint. I have a lot of other jobs/projects to do and am wondering if I should forget this and buy a bike ready to ride. Check to see whether the rear brake drum is oval . We pushed it into the workshop the rear brake wasn't seized would it go oval with just standing all those years? Should I start a new thread?
