I’m not convinced Matthewsons is the best place to sell your pride and joy. Although I like watching the programmes and they all seem very amiable

Motorcyclist fatalities increase by 9% in 2024
Davidtav replied to Fender1515's topic in Motorbike Chat
I have noticed an increase in cars overtaking on blind bends up here in this part of Scotland. Absolute madness. Seems to be predominantly huge Audis and BMWs. It is the thing which scares me the most when I’m on my bike these days. That I will go around a bend and find an Audi Q7 heading straight for me. I think folks have touched on the reasons for this in the previous comments. Cars these days have so much technology that maybe drivers feel they are invulnerable. Also I rarely see any marked police cars. Little visible deterrent. -
Best of luck mate

Good luck for all of the tests

It isn’t something I would have done. But I think the biker was extremely provoked. Van driver acted in a dangerous manner. Deserved what he got.

Thanks for the comments. The Peugeot was pre registered and heavily discounted. Im obviously hoping it will be ok. Some good advice about looking after the engine in the replies. I will take heed and fingers crossed.

For what it’s worth my money would be on the Mini as well. I know it isn’t a proper Mini. Or even. First generaBMW one. But still quite significant. However I need a proper car to take me places and have bought the Peugeot

So I have bought a new car. A Peugeot 208 Allure. Yeah and I’ve kept my Mini Cooper because I feel attached to it. Yeah I know that’s daft. Anyway. In ten years which one is going to be worth the most ? I think the value of the Mini Cooper is around £600 the price I paid for Peugeot is almost £20k. Interesting what you say

I think that’s a good point about the dealerships. But my nearest Suzuki dealer is over 100 miles away

I’ve got one as well. Came from Temu and was about £20. Works great! … it’s funny how folks say they would never buy a Chinese bike. Oppressive regime and everything. But we all rely on Chinese products actually. Just an observation

Slight rant. So I have eventually managed to buy a new car. It is a Peugeot. Picked it up on Friday. Really nice car. But no spare wheel. I know that isn’t unusual these days. My previous car was the same. But at least it had a can of goo and an inflator. Not even that with the Peugeot. The garage tells me this is how it is these days. Seems a bit strange to me. I have just emailed Peugeot customer service and asked what action I’m supposed to take if I get a puncture? Not expecting a sensible response … I will buy a spare full sized wheel and tyre. And a Jack and wheel brace. But honestly when you have just dropped almost £20k on a new car shouldn’t this stuff be supplied?

It's started again - bikes are coming out of garages.

Petrol stations do seem to have some strange rules based on so called H&S concerns. They still seem to ban mobile phone usage. But does anyone actually believe a mobile phone could start a fire? And I think you can fill an lpg tank on a vehicle. But not a bottle. -
You aren’t a mind reader. You really don’t know what people stuck in traffic are thinking. They are probably a bit angry because they are stuck in traffic! … I personally doubt many of them are thinking negatively about you taking your son for a ride. … just do everything legally and as safely as possible and enjoy yourselves. That’s my advice

I was wondering about these. Slightly off topic. But for my boat. Which is now on a mooring. So could I put the hose in the sea and jet wash the decks with sea water? I’ve been wondering this.

Bikes for tall riders - seat and peg height

I’m not sure these certificates mean much. I have a jacket which is really thick leather. I have no problem with using it. I’m sure it would be ok in a spill. Of course it has no certification -
Bike purchase is turning into a long running saga.

Update on my situation with the car. I’ve cancelled the order. Not sure what to do now. I do need a vehicle. Might go electric -

I completely agree. Probably cancel this week -

I’ve got similar with a car. So I ordered a new car in December 2024 and expecting to have it with the new registration in March. I haven’t got the car. Latest I’ve heard fro garage is car was damaged in transit and the import centre are waiting for a new wheel. Very inclined to cancel -
Yeah. Ridiculously overpriced thing. But it’s light and if it just works then will be ok https://seamarknunn.com/products/epropulsion-elite-xs-lightweight-electric-outboard-motor

I was a bit of a nob today. But I had to laugh at myself. So I bought this electric outboard motor. Looks great actually! And without reading the manual I plugged the charger in. And ES appeared on the display. I thought that has got to be an error code. So I looked at the back for errors. And couldn’t see anything about ES. And then it changed. And then I realised I had been looking at the display upside down! And it was 53% charged. Now 54% charged! Actually now fully charged. Itching to try it on my inflatable tender

Except the product is now unavailable! Maybe someone clocked the wrong price! Seriously though. That’s great if they are genuine!

I appreciate others point of view on this. I guess Ashley posts these videos to make people think. I completely get that he was technically correct. The silver car definitely wasn’t in front. Nor was it alongside. But it was extremely close and she wasn’t backing off. I still think that instead of insisting on my priority, that I would have backed off myself and let the silver car pass. That is assuming that the silver car showed no indication of allowing a reasonable space. It is interesting that I seem to be completely alone in my opinion on this. That probably implies that I am wrong lol. It was drummed in to me almost 50 years ago now, when I learnt to drive, to always drive defensively. And that’s what I believe I’m describing here as to how I would react.
-
I’ve watched this video quite a few times now. Just watched it again lol … I do agree that he is technically correct. However the way I operate is to not automatically expect other drivers to do the right thing … so what would I have done? I would have been very conscious of the silver car being very close and not looking as if it would back off. I would have given a couple of flashes of right hand indicator. And if the silver car didn’t back off then I would have slowed. Let it past and settled behind the silver car.
-
Yeah 1.15 I think … I can see that. Still very close to the silver car. I tend to drive a lot more defensively … as I said in first post I may be wrong.

I would be interested in what others on here might think of this video online. I’ve watched a few of this guys videos before. I’ve always agreed with his point of view. On this one not so much. I do get it that he is an Advanced Driving Instructor I believe. So should know what he is doing. All the comments on YouTube agree with him. Maybe he is right? Quite possibly. If you can be bothered then I would be interested in what others think. I know the folk on this forum are sensible and able motorists. In the clip he is positioned in a central lane which merges with the outside lane. I’m saying that he pulled over in an entitled way without indicating and no clear space to move into. Be interested what others think. I’m not condoning the other motorists reaction by the way.
