loose pilot jet after "backing off" the screws

i take you mean the mixture screw on the outside of each carb and not the one up in the float bowl basic set up for mixture screw is normally 1 3/4 to 2 turns out the adjust as needs be from there sounds like the bike would also benefit from having the carbs balanced using correct vaccuum gauges by a dealer -
need to check bits while its hot then is there still a spark,is fuel still getting through to carb, and other thing it could be the coil breaking down once its hot and then working again once cooled down
-
another trick is to use hand soap on the 1200 wet and dry as you are smoothing down the top coats
-
are you sure its not heat seizing does engine still turn over when it wont start if not then it has a major problem
-
it is normally just push fit then the 2 bolts it will have a rubber o ring on it just keep at it and it will come out if you can get a bar/screwdriver down around where it goes into the engine you might be able to put pressure on it there so as u wiggle it then it might just pop out

have seen this problem before have a look behind rubber seal on cap to see if you can see a vent hole
-
the axle is stuck in the inner race of the bearings and the wheel spins on the outer race the bearing are still working but the axle has seized into the inner section of them yo might be able to sqirt some wd40 or similar in along the axle which might help dont try and knoock it all in one direction either tap it one way yhen the other that will help break the rust seal

you say you charged battery do you get any neutral and oil lighht show when you turn ign on if not connect battery charger up to bike again and see if you get lights then battery migght of died over the winter wll show as charged on charger but not hold it one dssconnected

take the casing off and see if there is any sign of damage to the belt and check where belt runs for free play as there are rubber rollers in there that wear and it could be that but could be almost anything down in that area get it running put it on the centre stand and have a listen around
-
it could be the kick start quadrant the bit the kick start connects to with the teeth on it or it could be the speed variator and the rollers that the belt runs on
-
what bike is it??

always good to hear of a good ending and helpfull dealer

dont forget to try the lock with bars on full right and left lock as it will only go one way it lines up with a slot in the yoke stem
-
if the key goes in and you can turn it you need the steering on full turn then turn key push in and then turn key back to upright position the unit should stay set into the frame

agree that its all pointing at the battery being on its way out
