Up at 0500hrs … toilet, dressed .. start bike. 0535hrs. Start at Quarter bridge … no traffic … nothing , no one all the way to Ramsey ! Police at Balacraine, Sarah’s Cottage, gave me a friendly wave on the way past. Through Parliament Square onto the Mountain. Police at the Gooseneck holds up speed camera, waves it with a smile …. He needn’t have worried, fog and less than 20 metres visibility made sure I never got over 50mph over the Mountain road. Dropped through the speed control gate into Douglas, across the TT start finish line, back to the Rugby Club, 0623hrs. Toast, jam, coffee. Go to the IOM, ride the TT Course… “Change your life dude.”

Did a lap of the TT circuit, cross winds on the mountain were unpleasant even at my speed never mind race speed. We did another partial lap and went to Peel … “ Peel’s lovely” people said … they were right , it’s lovely … after 15 minutes we set off and finished our second lap ……. !! Watched practice from the Co Op at Crosby … god, the bikes are fast through Crosby…. Converted the tank bag from magnets to straps ready for Saturdays drive to Heysham and the IOM. V Strom has plastic tank panels.. not so good for magnets.. So .. bought some straps off Amazon, cut slits in the bag just below the magnets, slipped the straps through and now sewing the slits to strengthen the area. The straps will hold the bag in its normal position attached to the crash bars either side of the radiator … Not spending any money when I can modify it myself …

Both parcels… camping gear and clothing have arrived at the Douglas Rugby Club… now only the weather to arrange. Spoken to the IOM Ferry company if it pours all week we can bug out with little notice as the ferry is not full for the return journey during practice week …. But thats the last resort …

Bike garage for chain adjustment … seriously …. It’s really simple …. Super simple. Where in Scotland are you … there must someone on here near by that could show you … or go to YouTube … it really is easy …Enjoy your ride out … Just checked YouTube really good instructions on doing the chain.

MOT and new back tyre time …. £207 later … drive in and pick up 6 hours later .. Frankly … happy .. ish … sort of … why would you not be … sort of …. The ride home …. Tyre is smaller than the one it replaced .. “ that’s the wrong size tyre “ … Even as a new fit it feels so much better .. drops into roundabouts smoothly, .. no flat spot… lol … Yes, they were right …the previous tyre was over width … and the handling is now great …. Well, better …

So the first ride with the Cardo intercoms … I’m not a fan, I like my solitude on the bike .. to put the world to rights in my head … solace … David Time … Off we went Suzuki HGV , Aprillia tool …. Ok 125 tool … but it’s fast !!!!! 3 hours later ..I’m sold ..it’s great being able to chat , to discuss stops, which way we’re actually turning at this roundabout … but having my 20 year old singing Blondie tracks in my ears was a no no .. especially as he fits in his own words … I started singing Roxy Music tracks … we accepted a truce … The Cardo System does not need a smartphone … it’s simple to use ..top kit ..

My Arai Chaser X is tight … at the TT last year I took it to the Arai tent … the techs there said it was a “Race” fit helmet … and cleaned and replaced bits various .. l like tight …… my LS2 is comfortable …maybe even loose ….

Get yourself a 50mm syringe … and a length of silicone fuel tube from a model shop or online …. Perfect brake bleeding every time …

Inner tube tyres …I do myself … tubeless!! … really hard to get off and I can’t balance the wheel … My LMBS can dynamically balance the wheel … and I only have to leave it for an hour while I sit in Costa and read ….. without buying anything ……. LMBS wins .. So , thinking of the guy doing the work I spent an hour cleaning 6000 miles of chain lube off the rim ….. Has to be done ….

Asked my LMBS for a quote for a new rear Metzler Tournance fitted … drive in, not loose wheel … they reckon £170 …. How does that sound ….???

Buy a RE Himalayan and get out and ride between fetteling …
