  1. I'd say just do a couple of lessons and get a bigger bike when you pass. Gears aren't hard to master at all, particularly if you already drive. If you already have experience on 2 wheels I reckon it shouldn't take much.
  2. It's not a test, it's Compulsory Basic Training which lasts for 2 years before you need to renew unless you pass your bike test in that time. All I can say is do it, best 90 quid I spent! And opened the door to getting my bike licence which I have since done. Also it will validate the moped licence entitlement you get when you pass your driving test if it was post 2001 (prior to that I believe the moped entitlement was automatically given as soon as you passed your driving test) giving you the legal right to ride a 50cc restricted to 30 mph if you choose to do so for the entire period of your driving licence
  3. Cbt, one day ride out/lesson on a 500cc, 4 weeks on a 50cc scoot (which I still have), then done a day lesson/ride out, mod 1 training (3 hours), mod 1, 3 hours test training and mod 2. All training done on a gs500 (apart from cbt on a cg125).

    crackcase leaking oil

Use some liquid metal in the hole then re-drill and tap
  5. A pass is a pass by 1% or 100% that's all that counts well done
  6. Good luck, I bet when you pass you'll feel great
  7. Don't put the poor girl off! More likely just break an arm or leg. In all seriousness it's easy and more bout confidence than skill
  8. Try passion automotive (google it), they have a few, I'm thinking of getting one myself from there (mainly car stuff, now doing bike stuff too by the looks of things) but great service always when I've used them
  9. Anythings possible.... But normally there's a reason why the size is picked for the bike and the entire set up is made to work together (the r&d isn't done overnight that's for sure). An extra 10mm isn't going to change the world on a ybr and change it's characteristics by much, maybe considering another bike would be a better option if you're not happy with the package? Plus ANY modifications should be declared to your insurer (and then you are at their mercy). If you don't and you crash it your insurance could potentially be invalid. Additional edit: reading thru it again sporty tyres are going to do not a lot for wet grip- sounds like a confidence barrier in adverse weather (I'm the same car or bike). Not much can help apart from experience and maybe some extra training IMO
  10. Weld, weld, weld and weld. Engine rebuild, the a series are tough as old boots but not the most long lived engine, so I'd say a least a good hone, set of rings and shells. Basically i think everything will need an overhaul. Good news is all the parts are really easy to find comparatively, its the English beetle and really well loved and supported.
  11. The mod 1 isn't too bad really it sounds like it's just nerves. I hadn't seen the test centre til my mod 1. Admittedly I failed the 1st time round but only due to a missed ob, all the manoeuvres came together fine on the day despite all my panic. At the end of the day if you don't pass it isnt the end of the world, it gives you a chance to see where you went wrong and try again when you feel ready.

    Breakdown!!

Was the batt charged fully before putting in? If not that could be ya problem and ya killed it. Alternatively the charging system is fooked, they would be my 2 guesses
  13. Checked the compression? Could be rebuild time
  14. Same here I can pull my scoot about like there's no tomorrow now! I'm pretty handy around a car but I still learned a thing or two
  15. You'll probably fail on missing an observation if you made no attempt at all depending on the examiner (it's a fail on mod 1 for sure)
  16. Ur the mate everyone needs but very few have, wish I had your skills!
  17. Just ride around, angled start from behind a vehicle, hill start, junctions and roundabouts etc. No u turn or emergency stop to worry about. Just treat it like a ride out with directions, you'll be fine
  18. I never saw the test centre til my mod1 (but it is a fair way and a really boring ride) but the school I used did have a huuuuge private yard with the whole thing set out as per the centre and it was fine for me. I didn't even think that the DSA would let you practice on their premises anyway? Might be worth a trip just to see it in the flesh and maybe watch a person or two go thru it (try not to put them off, their gonna have nerves as it is!) but it's nothing spectacular as long as u know the drill you'll be fine. I'm always weary of schools that don't have premises where they can practice the swerve etc off road, because things can, and do, go wrong occasionally.

    whats this?

First on looks like a voltage regulator the others I have no idea, what are they connected to?
  20. But once it's done and you've got the licence in your hand you've opened up a whole new world of freedom. Stick at it, it'll be worth it in the end
  21. BBQ paint from b&q, goes on nice dries well and looks factory. Thats what I used
  22. If it gets worse it could start flaking and blocking your fuel system-best seen to sooner rather than later or you could be risking a breakdown (mechanically first, then mentally when you can't get your pride and joy to move and have to fork out to fix it)
  23. Some training schools prefer you to get the theory out of the way I think so then it's just a clear run at the mod 1 and 2. I know that's what the place I trained with wanted to do as they intend to get most people on the road within 3 day lessons and half a day's mod 1 training at the most.
  24. If you go for fancy paint (flips, pearls, custom replica etc) it might affect the premium as it'd cost more to repair
