  1. Depends on the stuff really... I'd say buy something half decent first time around, no point shelling out more than necessary time and time again
  2. They're normally in a similar position to where spark plugs would be

    socket set

I use halfords professional. They've taken over 10 years of abuse on cars including being jumped on having 3 foot scaffold bars used on the end for extra leverage for seized bolts, being whacked with hammers and generally being used badly and not broken any tools yet!

    Water in tank

Might of been red diesel? It still works if you go for it but it's frowned upon lol
  5. That seems about right for the mod 1, some parts of the country aren't well catered for at all. Congrats on passing the theory though!
  6. There was something about this in ride not so long ago. While it's easy enough to make boots out of lorica (something like that) because you can add extra layers with gloves it's a lot harder because you need feel, control and dexterity, which is where leather excels. For proper protection it would seem you don't have a lot of choice unless you want to sacrifice safety (I'd rather save my hands, that cow will already have been killed whether I buy the gloves or not)
  7. Polishing wheel on a drill?
  8. Squeeze the pistons back in with water pump pliers, large mole grips etc. On cars I use a g clamp but it's far too big for the caliper on my 'ped. Make sure that there's enough room in the master cylinder for the fluid to go into that's displaced. that's my method anywho.
  9. When I done mine I was adamant I'd failed the bloody indicators wouldn't stay on! Luckily my examiner was in a car so I managed to lose him most of the time and I just had to make sure my pull offs from the side of the road were spot on when he asked me to stop so he could catch up. Only got 1 minor for cutting a roundabout (my instructor told Me to because it's on a single carriage way and an egg shape). I cried when I found out I'd passed, and jumped up and down hugging my instructor, and all of my workmates saw me coz my office is above the DSA :- S x
  10. Damage to learner bikes is inevitable it's part of learning! I dont mean to sound negative but I just feel sorry for those who do have spills on lessons who have to pay out a lot of money, which could potentially put a stop to someones learning til their finances have recovered. Or even worse put them off biking before they've even got on the road properly.
  11. Surely they're insured for this? If you crashed a car on a driving lesson you wouldn't be asked to stump up for it. I chucked an er5 down the road on a lesson and didn't pay a penny towards repairs, insurance waivers etc.... It just seems another way to scam money from people who have their heart set on something.
  12. Man that sucks... Better luck next time

    Rebuilding NSR engine

Nsr's are two stroke, top end rebuilds are part of the service schedule.
  14. Well done I'm in the same boat too... Passed in may and still got a bloody moped lol
  15. Isn't it measured by the air gap at the top, I.e with a ruler?
  16. No.... Sit still in traffic as long as possible. You can't fail if you don't go anywhere and run out of time.
  17. I'd have my money on sticking calipers causing the problem, but cheap discs tend to be more prone to warping anyway. Try a complete strip, clean, and rebuild of the front brakes replacing parts as needed. In the past I've used performance Kevlar pads (on my car) which were awesome but they caused warpage something to do with Kevlar not being suitable on standard pattern discs, probably not relevant to your problem though...,
  18. It's good practice to put your left foot down to keep the rear brake covered with your right. Otherwise you could be seen to not be in full control of the bike, so I was told by my instructor anyway.
  19. Plenty of revs, keep off the front brake, dab the rear if you need to slow down and look where u want to go is the key! You'll get there it'll click all of a sudden one day.
  20. Fixed! Was the regulator/flasher unit after all. Now for that mot!
  21. Try spraying the switch with wd40/electric contact cleaner and flicking it side to side to work it in? Had a similar problem on my ped and it fixed it
  22. Errr isnt that south west?
  23. No harm in asking them to fit them for you, worst comes to worst they normally lend you safety clothing anyway.
  24. My DAS I budgeted 700 but came in just under 500 with test fees, I had 2 full days (£130 a day, about 7 hours per day with 1/2 hour lunch paid for all inclusive I.e bike hire etc) and half a day which was £60 quid (about 4 hours) just mod 1 training just going through each bit on a private training yard over and over til you could do it in your sleep. Which turned into a competition for highest speed thru the speed trap on the swerve test. It may sound irresponsible but it was a great laugh in an enclosed safe environment, and the trainers never let us get out of hand.
  25. You'll be restricted to 33bhp for 2 years. That's what I was going to do but a 500 is easier to ride and costs the same to do DAS. That said though, if you're used to your own bike you'd find it easier on that probably, as long as you drop any bad habits you may have picked up for the vital half hour. As my instructor always said 'you're only putting on a show to pass, you still can't ride yet'.
