    Cleaning forks

If Ricco1 is talking about the alloy fork legs, then he should nitromors and wire wool the coating off, rough em up and paint em or polish em with Autosol and wax em!
  3. Do we need to book in with the pub , or just turn up on Friday / Saturday???

    tyre bruise

Yeah, what Rennie said. It's the result of a heat cycle. Look at race tyres if you get the chance, shows you've been giving it some!!!
  5. Be much better to have it powder coated mate. They will blast it and the plastic coating will last a lot longer than paint!
  6. I would demand another hugger at the very least. Remind him that the internet can work wonders for his reputation, good or bad???
  7. Talk to him ??? I'd rip his bleedin head off!!!Two things keep the rear wheel in the correct place and hence the chain in the correct amount of slack. You adjust it with the adjusters, then you tighten the spindle nut, than you tighten the adjuster again. He got two things wrong!!! In my book that's unacceptable for a supposed mechanic! In future, do it yerself. It's pi$$ easy , will save you maney, you will learn summat and you life is in you hands not some underperforming wan&£rs!!!!
  8. Yep, what EAB said. Should be ball bearings all around the inner race, fitted to the bottom yoke with a gap of one ball bearing . If they were dry and fell all over the floor, there was probably no grease on em, so they are knackered! You should buy a set of new ball bearings, inner and outer races and a dust seal and fit them, but see how they go back together, you may be lucky. Have you got a Haynes manual for your bike???
  9. Reg/rec normally runs hot, if too hot, wires going in can char. Check em once a week. Fit a voltmeter or do regular battery checks. Make sure metal part of rr is touching subframe and well earthed.
  10. Did it start alright before the new plug. If you still have it, clean up old plug with wire brush, heat spark section on cookery burner, screw in and start. If no start , checking plug wet, if not, check carb, give it a good clean especially jets float valve seat. If wet, check spark is good, if good check air filter not blocked. Good luck.
  11. May, you lord to yerself. It,s in there somewhere.
  12. Yes, really, get it sorted.
  13. Nice one fredc. Yep, triangles at top and single stud at bottom rear
  14. Just Googled it? Looks like two at front , one at top rear and possibly one at bottom rear?
  15. Have you got any pix mate? I assume you,ve done a Google ? eBay search?
  16. If it's buckled it will get dangerous very quickly and suddenly. GET IT FIXED ALEX.
  17. I kin hate thieving bike shops. Always done my own with a trusty Haynes and mechanical sympathy, oh and a decent set of tools. If in doubt, just ask.
  18. Soapy water shouldn't do any harm, neither will petrol, just avoid sparks!!! You should buy an aerosol can of brake cleaner , about £3.00 to blow any crap out of the jets, fuel and airways
  19. I use brake cleaner with a plastic tube on. Be careful with diaphragm at top of carb, if it has one. Blow through all fuel and airways with aerosol cleaner, clean float valve seat with a cotton bud. Lay everthing out on a clean flat surface. Clean yellow crud out of float bowls with a toothbrush or stiff paintbrush. Loosen all screws and don't overtighten on rebuild. Good luck, alan. .
  20. Can,t make my mind up, may just go for a ride on the Marsh while all the cops are in Hastings. Gimme a shout n we,ll meet up. I,ll pm my number.
  21. Nice one mate
  22. Was just wondering, there's about 56 of us so far. Do they have a big enough field for us all and enough " facilities"

    Chain tool

I've got one that has had a hard life. You are welcome to borrow it , but I'll need a £50 deposit as well as postage, as when I borrowed a mates , it broke in two!!!! Coulda been a bad batch, but I don't wanna risk not having one. Used to and still do sometimes split chains with an angle grinder and centre punch. Rivet em back on with two hammers. Hardest bit is squeezing the sideplate onto the rivet link with two molegrips. PM ya number for a chat???
  24. Would be nice to meet up with you and Eddie, Gayle. I expect he'll have your bike sorted pretty soon
  25. Decor58, I can't ride that far on motorways without a lot of pain in my old knees and having to stop 2 or 3 times.
