  1. This is going to sound crazy, but can you not cross the border and get the tag in England? You don't need a passport or anything (I checked!) Just pointing it out. The point was to have common pub names people could get points relatively easily with. Only 2 days into the game and it would not be very disruptive at all to change Kings Head to Black Bull for Scotland.
  2. I have searched and searched and there are no Kings Head pubs/hotels in Scotland. Could we get an alternative please? I have checked and there is a good spread of Black Bulls around with about 20 or so. Only the north west of Scotland has not got any, but it the best I can do.
  3. A review of the Oxford Gloves http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... 75&t=40852 Just dont let them get wet! I find that a waterproof layer (as it will also be windproof) helps, so I have a Spada jacket and over gloves and Weise waterproof trousers.
  4. But, I cannot find a King's Head pub/inn/hotel anywhere in Scotland
  5. I have this now planned like a military operation. Booked into a B&B in Dornie so on the 30th Jan I'll do Inveraray, Oban, the Commando Monument on the way there and the 31st will be Applecross and the Skye Bridge, a second night at Dornie then down to an overnight in Dollar to do Knockhill and then home via the Falkirk Wheel. I can stay at Dollar again to do Edinburgh and the Forth and Tay Bridges. Summer will be Up the A82 via the Drovers, Green Welly on the way to do Ullapool, John O'Groats and Culloden on the way back. The Borders/Dumfrieshire 5 can be knocked off in one run and some point. So that is 200 points and the bonus for doing Scotland, plus any pubs I can find.
  6. And many months on from that post, I past Mod 1 first time with no faults and failed Mod 2 first time before passing the second with a couple of minors. I would now rate both are has hard (or easy) as each other on the day.
  7. Until you know what fits you best, I would ignore all advice
  8. Oooo, it does, so add to the GOOD that you can make a throat slashing mime with it, to scare the bejesus out of car drivers who cut you up
  9. Bought off eBay for about £6. Dec 2011 http://www.sandybloymotorcycles.com/_assets/_user/Image/products/141_prod_1_big.jpg GOOD Works really well to wipe off the rain MEDIUM You look a bit daft with it on and it needs a rubber band to secure it to your glove BAD I find it a bit too tight with the large version over large winter gloves. Could be better, especially if they make an XL version. I would suggest you buy the size up.
  10. Me? Yep Sorry, just reread my original post and realised it didn't actually say I was in the car, which is now a write-off Police were their usual efficient selves, turned up quite quickly and then did absolutely f**k all. "It'll be up to your insurers whether or not the lorry driver is reported" WTF! I don't wanna have to go car hunting f**k IT!!!! That is a load of crap, I would get back in touch with someone more senior than the officers who turned up and ask since when did the police had over duties to insurance companies? My speedo cable snapped today f**k it!
  11. Yup, stiff cut off switch for the side stand. Some WD40 has helped free it up.
  12. Your supervisor is very accommodating to allow you to wash your bike and write personal messages on the computer while you're at work. I had a job like that once. Now, in retirement, I have to do everything on my own time. Privilages of being the supervisor! (Which are extended to the staff as well as we get down times when there really is nothing to do and its good for moral)
  13. No, it just cuts out. It maybe down to me getting lazy and jet washing the bike at work a few days ago as it was so covered in crud, especially where the side stand is As soon as I get home I'll check it.
  14. No I definitely put it up, but I didn't check to make sure it had gone all the way up, so the cut off switch may still had been engaged. I'll look at that when I get home but the way the engine died it was just like when the stand is down.
  15. Late for work this morning as the engine would start, then it would go into gear but as soon as I let the clutch out the revs died away and the engine would stop. Suggestions appreciated
  16. Bought off eBay for £12 for two. http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/images/D/NBP_H7_750.jpg GOOD Price, they are the cheapest of the extra power night bulbs I can find. Light, brighter white makes the road ahead clearer. Standard fit and will work with any bike. You appear brighter to other road users, but it now essential to have the lights properly adjusted to stop dazzling. MEDIUM Only a slight increase in distance seen. BAD Nothing
  17. It looks smart Keith, any before photos?
  18. Hi and welcome The Direct Gov website is the official and most accurate and it will not try to sell you anything! You start with Compulsory Basic Training http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Le ... DG_4022430 a days worth of teaching and lessons. Find your local riding school and ask about a taster lesson, which is often free. You get a hour or so of basics and a ride round their yard. Between that and the CBT you will have plenty of time to speak to instructors at the school about the best way to progress. Here is the forum section on CBT and the tests, the three stickies on members experiences of each are superb http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=47 You will also need kit, helmet (compulsory), gloves, boots and armoured jacket and trousers are pretty much compulsory now as the Driving Standards Agency will not let you do your tests if you turn up with jeans and a light jacket. Here is the section of the forum with some kit reviews, but the internet has tons of advice as well (probably so much it leaves you a bit confused!) http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=72 As for costs, here is what it cost me in my first year, inculding everything (its a bit scary and I did it relatively cheaply) http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... =3&t=41851 My advice is to firstly to go to a training school and a few dealers and speak to them, get costs, sit on bikes, try our gear and get a feel for the whole thing. Then if you have specific questions, ask them here
  19. Used for about 6 months in all weathers. £3.98 off eBay for 12 stickers http://www.moglo.co.uk/reflective_stickers.htm I really like the black ones that reflect white http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7012/6499902165_fefba8bf38.jpg and these ones are red http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7156/6499900967_5000576e8c.jpg both photos taken with a flash in the pitch black, as seen here http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/6499899627_7be5d54ddb.jpg I have them on my bike as well. They stick fast, survive the weather and if you want they will peel off without any residue (they just come apart so you could not re-use them).
  20. That is a fabulous looking bike.
  21. I have not ridden a bike like that, you mention the front becomes floaty at speed because of the fairing. It looks like a sail and surely in hot weather it would take any cooling breeze away from you. Would it not be better without it?
  22. I often ride with my visor up and wear a pair of safety glasses.
  23. A top box, fenda extenda, a gel seat pad and mirror extenders. Well, next time I insure my bike I'll find an insurer who understands that people who mod vehicles are also people who take pride in them and that means they are less likely to have accidents as they take more care. They are also less likely to claim as they are up to doing their own repairs.
