This is just planning the dream, but somewhere like here would be ideal for a few nights http://www.gouldings.com/ a campsite with views of Monument Valley. Are you allowed to take a motorbike and ride trails or just off road around Monument Valley?

When I went to the US with the Scouts for a Jambouree we stayed at a camp in Massachusettes, Camp Norse. One night there was huge thunder and lightning strom such the siren wnet off which meant we had to bail out for the main building. Three of us decided it was too far away as we were at the edge of the site and went to a shower block instead Inside it started to humm and there was a static sort of crackling and I decided to make a run for it just as the block was hit by lightening. My two friends inside came out like scalded rats with their hair on end. I had ended up on face down in the mud and I remember the brief heat and light was incredible. None of us were hurt thankfully. So I would rather be on the photographers side of the canyon

What risk missing out seeing something like this....... http://twistedsifter.sifter.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/grand-monsoon-lightning-storm-grand-canyon1.jpg
  4. I have had look as well and local dealer had a offer for a while of jacket and helmet for £100. Going by my wife and her friends, clothes get traded all the time on eBay as children grown out of them. Off road trails riding, as kids can do that, has the most purpose made kit.

So would May and October be the best compromises?

After driving near these places in an air conditioned car last year, I do not think I could ever do it on a bike Having ridden across Rannoch Moor at -5 and hardly having ridden on a really hot day, I cannot wait for some serious heat.
  7. Build threads, we love them. Lots of pictures as well! Subscribed. That is going to look so good when you are finished.

Las Vegas, Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon and Death Valley. My dream bike trip.
  9. Powder coat and black is definitely the way to go with that cruiser IMO
  10. Sunday Times album of the week, fabulous heavy post rock by Russian Circles and I have a ticket for their one UK date on their tour http://www.russiancirclesband.com/img/empros_wtxt.jpg
  11. Booked in to do the Dumfrieshire and Borders tags on the 12th and 13th March. Apart from the starting run down the M74, it is all good looking roads I do not know.
  12. I had that junction when I did my first Mod 2 and I am sure there were at least faded road markings there to help guide you. I supposed you go by the seams in the tarmac as to where lines should be. But that is a bugger of a junction.
  13. I assume there are some lessons in that as well. I did an annual report adding up costs http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/view ... ual+report Lessons and tests Lessons (inc pre-CBT taster, CBT and pre-test) 12 (of which 6 were on a 125cc and 6 were DAS on a 600cc) Past first time Theory/Hazard Perception and Mod 1. Passed second time Mod 2. Time taken to get licence 7 months. Costs - £666 in lessons. £306 in tests (inc CBT and 2x Mod 2) Total - £972
  14. Hi Yellowclaws and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the fail on what appears such a minor issue. I wonder if it is the examiners or the routes that makes Shieldhall supposedly the hardest place to pass.
  15. Nice job, black is a bugger to deal with. What did you use, that picyure has not come out.
  16. Thanks and welcome to the forum. Not many Australians here
  17. I tried the above and there is still a very faint line, but now only such that I can see it.
  18. Are you able to post your progress and likely times arriving at the tags, say the day before? Depending on times I would go to either Rannoch Station (Monday) or the Falkirk Wheel (Tuesday) with a flask of coffee and some cake and wait for you.
  19. I hate the A9, but it leads to so many good roads.
  20. Best website for up to date info on Scottish roads http://trafficscotland.org/ It is about time they got the Rest sorted.
  21. Hi, I passed second time round. My fail was because even though I have driving past Arkleston primary school and Renfrew High on Cockles Loan for years I had never noticed the 20mph outside the High School is temporary when lights flash but the one outside the primary is 20mph all the time My pass was with one minor for pulling out to let cars onto the Clydeside Expressway and then when I pulled back in to the inside lane as the cars accelerated away I did not do a lifesaver. The examiner saw I checked my mirror, but he felt I should have done a lifesaver as well. The examiner is on a bike. As for test routes, there are only two places that you can do over 40mph that are near the test centre, so you will either find yourself on the Clydeside Expressway or the back road from Renfrew to Hillington on Arkleston Rd. Otherwise it is a combination of Jordanhill, Govan, Hillington and Renfrew. As for advice, all I can say is that the routes are all hard as there is hazard upon hazard with changing speed limits, odd junctions, round-a-bouts, speed cameras, mad Renfrew drivers, daft Govan pedestrians, traffic lights galore and you just need to watch everything like a hawk
  22. Here are my recommendations http://www.themotorbikeforum.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=79 and now after a year all still looks good and I have never leaked.
  23. How many of you are planning on doing the really remote challenges?
  24. Progress so far, when I got it and now http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6018/5993728622_c3f0e110e7_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7195/6917010887_399812a853_b.jpg It is not at obviously different as I thought it would be. The gold still stands out on the frame and the part of the fairing that is gold. All the transfers and the tank pad have been removed. The seat has a gel pad (brilliantly comfortable). The pillion peg frame parts and bash plate are black now. Still to be done - powder coated the side stand - turn the white plastic lower chain guard white to black - maybe paint the lower front forks, but they match the cloured part of the engine - change the silver bar ends, either black or gold - paint the silver exhaust shield black - maybe remove the Kawasaki and or the KLE500 transfers http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7054/6917009925_0fa9461c01_b.jpg
  25. Yes, but underneath all of the crud I want a bike that is not wrecked. Scruffy second hand covers would be ideal.
