  1. Glad you had a good time Jayne.....it was just a bit far for a "school night". especially as I had to be out the door just after 5am this morning!! Bob

Thanks for the advice mate.....will do. Although I have an older bike with a headlight switch so I can turn them off. I'm guessing that this needs to be done just so the battery doesn't drain during the process? Cheers Bob
  3. Anyone going to the Marina tomorrow night? Won't be back from work early enough for the Ashby run....but can probably get to the Marina. Bob
  4. ACF50 is a good spray for protecting your electrics and metal work too. Bob
  5. Or this may be what you are looking for: http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Yamaha/DT_1 ... pe_Rubber/ Good Luck, Bob
  6. I'd be inclined to run along to a dealer and see if they can identify the part....or see if there is a Yamaha parts list available on the internet. Bob
  7. Try and get the front wheel off the ground and check Head Bearings, wheel bearings, etc. Also check that it's not just a brake or speedo cable moving through their guides or something like that. I'm not familiar with the specifics of the CG125....but just go round the forks and head assy's and make sure all bolts/screws are tightened to the correct torque. It's not unusual after work has been carried out on the bike for bolts/screws to loosen off or need further tightening after a few runs. Good luck, Bob

    snaped spark plug

What bike is it? If possible I think you would be best to remove the head. If you drill the remains you could get swarfe down inside onto the piston where it could do a bit of damage. Screw extractor of the correct size is probably the best option.....but take it real easy, you don't want to damage the head or the plug threads. Just a note of caution... Bob
  9. Hmmmm....not too much info here (Bike, etc) but as above just go round the front end and see if anything is loose. Is the front brake binding? Is your Speedo cable connected correctly? Does the speedo needle fluctuate while riding? Does the click only happen when you brake or accelerate? If you lift the front wheel off the ground and spin it does it click then? If you can give us a bit more info we may be able to narrow things down or suggest where to look. Cheers, Bob

    TuneEcu

Good job there Aaron. There's a good video on youTube on using the TuneECU programme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hE2GnnqWWE I'm just investigating this for low speed surging on my Speed Four.....and maybe have a look at a few other things on there too. I was looking at TuneBoy....which is running at around $500AUD....when I stumbled on TuneECU which is FREE. Ordered a cable on eBay for £10....so when that arrives I'll be trying this out and hopefully not banjaxing the whole thing.. Bob
  11. Hey...that's good news. You shouldn't have a problem jumping the bike from a car. The alternators turn out the same sort of voltage irrespective of the size of the battery. Only the current would vary. The only time it could cause a problem is if you had a fault in the electrics on the bike and the current available from the car (via an un-fused jumper lead) could burn wiring or components out! We jumped Mandy's Bonneville T100 from her Octavia with no probs some time back with no ill effects. Anyway...you're sorted now... this is just for future reference. Bob
  12. Hey Neil....I think we'll be up for that. Forgot about it...but just found the flyer as you reminded me. My Dad has just been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer....so I'm definitely in support of this. I think they want riders to register beforehand at Hunt Rider on Facebook (is this OK mods, as I know publishing this sort of info on the forum is not encouraged?) Let us know where and when you want to meet. Cheers, Bob
  13. 12.68v for a new battery sounds a bit low to me. Thought you would expect nearer 13v. Check the voltage with the booster connected. Also check voltage of battery when you hit the starter. I suspect your new battery is not up to the job. Voltage is dropping off when you hit the starter. Or the starter is pulling too much power. Maybe you'd be best off taking bike to auto electricians. Bob.

    Project bike...

That was me! Tempted to ask if the wheelbarrow is included next I guess it just had to be!
  15. Thanks to all for replies. Budget? I think max 80 squids. Revit look good but a bit out of my range I think. Weise, richa, held, all seem to do some good gloves in my price range. Went to local bike shop but he has a very limited stock. The choice is truly bewildering! The quest continues. Cheers, Bob.
  16. Sometimes poor chain tension can cause bad shifts. As CtB says there are sweet spots where the gear shift is smoothest. My bike really doesn't like it if I try to shift up too early and I've really got to lift that gear lever to get it into the next gear. How about your oil...is it fairly fresh or are you due a change? Also...how old is the bike? Maybe still needs some loosening up if it's got less than 10000 on the clock? Bob

    Project bike...

Gotta laugh.....someone asked if the ladder is included!!
  18. Anyone getting down there this Tuesday (7th June)? Hoping to get along (work permitting). Cheers, Bob
  19. I hear what you're saying CTB.....but trying them on in the shop/at a show etc is not the same as riding in them. As I said it seems to be the seam running down the outside of the thumb that is causing the problem. I have 2 pairs of gloves and they are both the same and Mandy has a coupla pairs and the same thing. I have fairly big hands and longish fingers and I don't know how many gloves I've tried in the past to find some that just fit. I buy the ones that do fit...but even after a good running in period they still bite into my thumb. All I'm looking for is some recommendations...then I'll hunt 'em down and try 'em out. May take a run to the local bike shop tomorrow if he's open and see what he has in there. Cheers, Bob
  20. Can anyone recommend some comfortable gloves? I had a 1 1/2hour ride yesterday and the seam down the outside of my thumbs cut off the circulation. A great ride was slightly spoiled by the constant nagging from my hands, particularly the right hand. There are so many gloves out there that it's really difficult to try them all on....so any recommendations from forum members will be gratefully received. Bob
  21. Hi Steve, I had a break too (approx 20 Years). Bikes are bikes......you are right that the current 600 bikes could outperform 900 bikes from 30 years back...but things like brakes and chassis design have also improved. Tyres are considerably better now too. I started again on a Triumph 900 Trophy...and to be honest the performance was OK...but i just found the thing to be too damn heavy (top heavy). I've recently got a Triumph Speed 4 which suits me a lot more. 600cc but with around 98bhp....and it weighs in at around 175Kg...which is best part of 70Kg less than my Trophy! The roads are worse (over populated) these days...but a bit of common sense...and maybe a bit of Training (BikeSafe) should help. You can contact local bike training groups who can run refresher training for those who have had a bit of a break (CamRider is our local group) just to get the feel again. Good Luck, Bob
  22. What time did you get there Jayne? We were there from around 7:15 to just before 8. Seemed pretty quiet down there. Guess a lot of peeps may be away coz half term. Sorry to hear about your back nman.....sounds like you need a cruiser Hopefully work will be OK and we can get down next week. Cheers, Bob
  23. Will there be anyone there tonight from the forum? We're just getting ready. Cheers, Bob

    bike care

Do you have room for one of those Bike Bungalows? I use AutoGlym products on cars and bikes. The polish goes on easy and if you use their detergent wash it stays well protected for up to 6 Months. As above...ACF50. Drives the water out of the places you can't get to and protects it too.Solvol Autosol on the chrome. Dunno what sort of bike you have but I'm putting a plastic film on some of the more vulnerable paintwork on my bike from a company called PaintGard. Fairly expensive....but if it does what they say.....! Also has film for the Headlamps in the kit.....glasses for mine are £70 a shot...so maybe the kit ain't so expensive after all if it saves a headlamp glass!! Cheers, Bob
