  1. And your bike!!
  2. How about checking and adjusting Head bearings and checking wheel bearings? Topping up Coolant and burping the system to get rid of any air. Greasing suspension linkages and checking for play I think you're gonna have your work cut out here mate. I'll lend a hand if I can...but we won't be arriving until late morning Saturday. Cheers, Bob

Hey Alan.....I think you've been really unlucky there. But the same problems could have occured with any make of bike. You need to find a "proper" bike shop nearby. We are lucky that we have such a shop near us where the guy that runs it is a lifelong biker....and sometimes he is just too nice and helpfull!!! My other half has a late 04 Bonnie from new and she loves it and, touch wood, it has given virtually no trouble at all. You'll know the good bike shops as soon as you walk in them!!!! Good Luck Bob

    brake light problem

Yep...classic bad earthing problem. Current can't get to ground through the correct route, so finds and alternate route: ie through indicator. Worst comes to the worst, run a wire from the metalwork on the light assy to a point nearby on the frame.
  8. I'd agree with the above.....sounds like it could be the plug or coil/ht lead.
  9. Is there any more room at the Inn? Me and BonnieBird have just got rid of the kids for Saturday night......so if there's space we'll head up on Saturday When I say Inn....I mean a square of grass where we can put the tent!!!

Bonnevilles are made in the UK. I'm on my second Hinckley Triumph and Mandy on her first (Bonneville). Parts are nearly always next day delivery to Triumph dealer. So I think the guy who did the service and MOT was just a cowboy. If you can start the bike and rev it and put a voltmeter across the battery to see what the voltage is.....you are looking for 13 - 13.5 volts normally. If it's higher than that you could have a regulator problem. Another question would be what battery did you buy? I will normally go for a "branded" make (Varta etc) as some cheaper batteries are not so robust and also check the battery rating (Amps/Hour). Good Luck, Bob
  11. didn't get back from dublin until 6:30....... We did consider it, but decided weather wasn't looking too great either.

    refurb exhaust

You will need exhaust paint.....high temp! It doesn't normally have a undercoat.

    cant start bike

I used to have a Rover V8 that would start OK when cold.....but the starter wouldn't work when hot unless I crawled under the car and welted it with a big screwdriver or whatever. And that was cured by stripping the starter motor, cleaning it out and replacing the brushes. So if this is what's happening with your bike......
  14. In effect that's what they already have......it's called insurance premiums!!!! As I said in another thread...my eldest son is 20....he has a 15 year old non turbo diesel Citroen ZX....it's the slowest car in the world.....£1500 TPFT!! He has mates with 1.4 Fiesta's etc that are paying over £2000 TPFT.....£40 a week for insurance!! Then add fuel costs and other running costs........

    cant start bike

Could be the brushes sticking in the starter motor then. Pull it out and give the inside a good blast with compressed air. Dunno if the brushes are replaceable on that. Check the manual and see. May need a new set of brushes if they are too worn. Bob
  16. Just a quick update.... I bought a pair of Held Bagira gloves from MotoBrio as they were on offer (£35). Although I do still get the seam mark down the outside of my thumbs they are nowhere as bad as the other gloves I have. And after a very few rides they have softened up pretty good. So all in all I'm pretty pleased with them. Cheers, Bob
  17. Check out some of the walking base layers at Outdoor World. They've got some good stuff on offer over the next few weeks..... Cheers, Bob
  18. Don't know this bike....or much about gearboxes....but it sounds like the selector forks could be damaged. Gearbox strip is the only way to know for sure IMHO. Bob

    clutch noise ????

Hi Sam, was the bike making the noise before it went into the garage? Just wondering if this is a red herring. It sounds like to could be worn clutch plates. With only 10000 on the clock it shouldn't be notching in the clutch basket. The other thing that could rattle more when the clutch is released is the idler gear in the gearbox, but this is not very likely. Does the clutch slip under hard acceleration? especially in the higher gears. If the bike was OK before you took it in for the service or whatever you had done I'd be inclined to take it back and make them look at it. Could the rattle be the camchain? They would have had to split that to get the head off....so they could have buggered the tensioner. Bob
  20. Yeah, yeah, yeah....all the excuses being trotted out now!! Gotta say you guys weren't alone. There was a sum total of 5 bikes there when we arrived (including Tango and Bonnie)!!! We got talking to another couple that had come down from Peterborough expecting some of their club to turn up too! We all left at the same time, 9ish.
  21. Reasonable excuse Ash. As for the others.........!
  22. Went down the Marina tonight.......... Where were all the bikes?
  23. Hi All.....anyone gonna go for it tonight? Think we'll give it a shot as it's not tipping it down at the moment!!

    clutch noise ????

All clutches make some noise......just listen to any Ducati!! How much noise are you talking about....and are you having any problems with the clutch? How's your oil & level? Could be that the clutch plates are worn and are rattling in the basket. How many miles has the bike got on it? Bob
  25. Excellent. I got mine fitted as well. As you say, you've got to keep your hands wet too and put a little bit of detergent in warm water and spray it onto the film and the area you're putting it onto. Yeah.....I'm well pleased with how it came out on mine too.....good stuff that. Cheers, Bob
