  1. 12.68v for a new battery sounds a bit low to me. Thought you would expect nearer 13v. Check the voltage with the booster connected. Also check voltage of battery when you hit the starter. I suspect your new battery is not up to the job. Voltage is dropping off when you hit the starter. Or the starter is pulling too much power. Maybe you'd be best off taking bike to auto electricians. Bob.

    Project bike...

That was me! Tempted to ask if the wheelbarrow is included next I guess it just had to be!
  3. Thanks to all for replies. Budget? I think max 80 squids. Revit look good but a bit out of my range I think. Weise, richa, held, all seem to do some good gloves in my price range. Went to local bike shop but he has a very limited stock. The choice is truly bewildering! The quest continues. Cheers, Bob.
  4. Sometimes poor chain tension can cause bad shifts. As CtB says there are sweet spots where the gear shift is smoothest. My bike really doesn't like it if I try to shift up too early and I've really got to lift that gear lever to get it into the next gear. How about your oil...is it fairly fresh or are you due a change? Also...how old is the bike? Maybe still needs some loosening up if it's got less than 10000 on the clock? Bob

    Project bike...

Gotta laugh.....someone asked if the ladder is included!!
  6. Anyone getting down there this Tuesday (7th June)? Hoping to get along (work permitting). Cheers, Bob
  7. I hear what you're saying CTB.....but trying them on in the shop/at a show etc is not the same as riding in them. As I said it seems to be the seam running down the outside of the thumb that is causing the problem. I have 2 pairs of gloves and they are both the same and Mandy has a coupla pairs and the same thing. I have fairly big hands and longish fingers and I don't know how many gloves I've tried in the past to find some that just fit. I buy the ones that do fit...but even after a good running in period they still bite into my thumb. All I'm looking for is some recommendations...then I'll hunt 'em down and try 'em out. May take a run to the local bike shop tomorrow if he's open and see what he has in there. Cheers, Bob
  8. Can anyone recommend some comfortable gloves? I had a 1 1/2hour ride yesterday and the seam down the outside of my thumbs cut off the circulation. A great ride was slightly spoiled by the constant nagging from my hands, particularly the right hand. There are so many gloves out there that it's really difficult to try them all on....so any recommendations from forum members will be gratefully received. Bob
  9. Hi Steve, I had a break too (approx 20 Years). Bikes are bikes......you are right that the current 600 bikes could outperform 900 bikes from 30 years back...but things like brakes and chassis design have also improved. Tyres are considerably better now too. I started again on a Triumph 900 Trophy...and to be honest the performance was OK...but i just found the thing to be too damn heavy (top heavy). I've recently got a Triumph Speed 4 which suits me a lot more. 600cc but with around 98bhp....and it weighs in at around 175Kg...which is best part of 70Kg less than my Trophy! The roads are worse (over populated) these days...but a bit of common sense...and maybe a bit of Training (BikeSafe) should help. You can contact local bike training groups who can run refresher training for those who have had a bit of a break (CamRider is our local group) just to get the feel again. Good Luck, Bob
  10. What time did you get there Jayne? We were there from around 7:15 to just before 8. Seemed pretty quiet down there. Guess a lot of peeps may be away coz half term. Sorry to hear about your back nman.....sounds like you need a cruiser Hopefully work will be OK and we can get down next week. Cheers, Bob
  11. Will there be anyone there tonight from the forum? We're just getting ready. Cheers, Bob

    bike care

Do you have room for one of those Bike Bungalows? I use AutoGlym products on cars and bikes. The polish goes on easy and if you use their detergent wash it stays well protected for up to 6 Months. As above...ACF50. Drives the water out of the places you can't get to and protects it too.Solvol Autosol on the chrome. Dunno what sort of bike you have but I'm putting a plastic film on some of the more vulnerable paintwork on my bike from a company called PaintGard. Fairly expensive....but if it does what they say.....! Also has film for the Headlamps in the kit.....glasses for mine are £70 a shot...so maybe the kit ain't so expensive after all if it saves a headlamp glass!! Cheers, Bob
  13. Hoorah...a wedding. Are shotguns supplied or shall I bring my own?

    HELP CARB PROBLEMS

Pipe 2 could be the vacuum control for the fuel tap (I don't know this bike so this is a guess) Pipe 1 sounds like the feed from the tap to the carb. I think that's what eastanglianbiker is saying? So the Vacuum control will go to a nipple on the inlet stub between the carb and the cylinder head. The Tickover screw just adjusts the tickover speed. The mixture screw adjusts the mixture at tickover. Did you service the carb? May be worth just stripping it and giving it a clean before going too far. Cheers, Bob
  15. OK....so the group with the 2 good looking women and a bloke that is now walking funny after an involuntary sex change due to an ill considered post on the forum! Should be easy to spot! Cheers, Bob
  16. I've not fitted my Paintgard stuff yet. Got a week off....so that was one of the jobs planned. Steve from Paintgard was very helpfull and offered a lot of advice on how to fit it. Said I could phone him if I ran into any probs. So I'll be interested on how you get on with it. Keep us posted. Cheers, Bob
  17. Come say hi if you see us there, we're normally all huddled together on a table And you'll all have red carnations in your button holes or a folded copy of the financial times under your arms? Bob
  18. Me and BonnieBird went to the marina on Tuesday night. There were probably 50 bikes there. We don't know anyone there....so we just had a drink, a look round the bikes and foxtrotted. Neighbour had mentioned it to us before...but we never got round to going down there. Gonna try to get there as often as work allows this year.....along with trying to get some more miles on the bike. Last year was a joke......neither of us clocked more than a coupla hundred miles in the year!! Maybe if any of you see an Orange Speed Four and a Green and Gold Bonneville turn up together you could give us a shout? Bad luck acemastr.....is it repairable? Cheers Bob
  19. I don't know about an MOT failure. All I can find is that the requirement is for the indicators to flash at a steady speed! Best course would be to ask at a bike MOT testing station. Are the indicators LED or bulb? If they are LED you would probably have to replace the relay or fit a set of Bulb indicators. Good Luck, Bob
  20. Ricco1....do both sides flash at the same speed? If one side flashes faster than the other I would check the above suggestions around poor connections, corroded bulb holders, etc. If both sides flash at the same rate I would probably go with Polecats suggestion that the flasher relay may be a bit sus. Does the flash rate stay the same irrespective of engine speed or does the flashing get faster as the revs go up? Regulator? Check the bulbs to make sure you have the correct wattage for your bike. Does it have the original indicators or have they been replaced with LED ones? If so you may need a special relay for the LED indicators. Just a few ideas for you to consider. Cheers, Bob
  21. Hi guys, just looking to see if anyone on here has a Speed Four and replaced the clutch cable with a Venhill's one and rerouted it to stop it rubbing on the Rad mounts. Any details on how it is rerouted would be appreciated. Cheers, Bob
  22. Dunno if you got the answer you were looking for? I've got the beginnings of this problem on my Speed Four so I bought a kit of paint protector film from a company called PaintGard. Fairly expensive although it does have bits for the fairing, belly pan and headlamp protectors too but the blurb sounded just what I wanted. You can also get "Chicken Wings" from Motrax that stick on the side of the tank which are like self adhesive silicon pads. Hope this late replay helps. Bob
