mattrick Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 failed mot because horn affected headlight.(blinks when pushing horn)had it checked by mechanic and all voltages and power where good.nothing wrong with bike.because it has magneto and not a battery the revs need to be up a bit higher than idle for it to work properly(which it does).i wired the horn direct to powersupply using seperate switch and it still affected headlight.i think the power surging up the wire is the problem but dont know how to stop it.is there some sort of electrical component or booster i can add into the wiring to stop this happening.50cc husqvarna ch racing.if i am being told that there is nothing wrong with the bike why are these mot people being such tossers.any help most welcome.thanks.ps runs on a/c not d/c. TC Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I'm sure someone on here had the same problem a while back. Not sure how they overcame it. Is it the first MOT, if not could you take it to the garage that did the last one or even just contact them and ask about it. Quote
mattrick Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 that was me and i havnt overcome it yet.was hoping there was something i could add into the wiring harness.thanks Quote
j4ff Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Does a horn have to be electrical?Im not taking the pee here but can a mechanical or battery powered horn be fitted and just disconnect the electric one for your mot then take it off again.Doesnt cure the problem but may pass an mothttp://www.sjscycles.com/xxlimages/15534buddy_xxl.jpghttp://i.ebayimg.com/05/!BbnIEIg!Wk~$(KGrHqQOKiwEq40HlNwTBKw1vOlCK!~~_1.JPG?set_id=8800005007 Quote
Stu Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 sounds like theres a bad earth to me check all earth connections to the horn and the headlight also worth checking all the wiring to the headlight!!also check wiring on the switch gear too Quote
Danny-B- Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Maybe a capacitor would be able to keep the voltage from dropping...Im no electrician mind lol but my dad is ... ill run it by him see what he recommends. Quote
Guest Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 find out which one is proving power to sound the horn, then undo the other and make your own earth wire, from the spade connector to the mounting bolt/frame, and see if this solves your problems.. basically providing a different and shorter earth. Quote
