A tad miffed to discover that Apple Music has a very poor selection of Porcupine Tree, so I've had to hunt down the discography elsewhere and load it in to iTunes.


Currently on Voyage 34 and wondering how the hell this all slipped through my listening net?

It slipped me by too. I first heard of them about 6 years ago when a bloke doing our guttering recommended them and burned me a copy of Fear Of A Blank Planet. Been hooked ever since.

Apart from when I crest a mountain range (with the army everybody thought had been decimated) to crush my enemies and cement my right to rule the world as its beneficial despot - I'm struggling to think when else I'd ever play this? :lol:

I've given OK Computer a couple of listens this week as it's turned 20!, what a masterpiece of an album.

 

Yep....an absolute classic..... 8-) ......and then there's the Reggae version......which is also good...... 8-)

After years of thieving music from the web.

We finally signed up to Spotify.


What a revelation.

I've joined the yoof :cheers:

 

I got one of the original invites to Spotify when it first started. With the higher bit rate for premium customers, the sound quality is superb and blind testing shows it is indistinguishable from CD and other decent resolution digital formats.


Swedish prog rock and post metal instrumentals are just some of the joys Spotify contains. Here is some French prog metal

I relax to that kind of music, this is the seriously heavy stuff and live, it is quite an intense experience

Still listen to the upstarts ,stiff little fingers (one of the best bands ever IMO) also dropkick murphys,ac/dc Motörhead ,greenday,specials,sham 69, the clash & sherly crow all get thrown in the mix & Mumford & sons to round the night off,pretty much appreciate most music except modern poppy rap type shite ,time to throw a 45 on the table me thinks :cheers:

So I haven't checked this tread for some days now, and look at all the 'new' music that has been posted. :thumb:

Great for a sunday morning to listen to all of it and see if there are any 'new discoveries'...

Some of them I just skipped through, but others I enjoyed listening too a lot and there are great video's that I never saw before as well .


Like TC1474, Tankbag and JRH mentioned, I am running around in the circle of the familiar music of my own 'youth', and hardly get to hear anything else.

Threads like these give you the opportunity to listen to something else, and even if there's nothing that appeals to you, you at least know it's there...


Apart from all the obvious music that comes with my generation, I do like a Norwegian lady singer of tradditional folk music of Lappland; Marie Boine.

Heavily cliched perhaps, but I love it all the same 8-) Plus they have the heritage, John Sykes went on to play in Whitesnake and John Deverill was a founding member of Persian Risk, alongside Phil Campbell of Motorhead fame. Surprising just how very forgotten they now are.

I remember them! They were from up my way I think. You might like Fastway, the band Fast Eddie Clarke formed when he left Motorhead. Cliched yes, but rocking good fun :D

Annoyingly, I enjoyed that. Must be because I am a walking cliche myself!


I had a little break from the Tygers and enjoyed myself some Warlock instead, Doro Pesch's first band. I can't get enough, she's like a female Dio. Sometimes I don't even watch the video too closely :drool:

And to prove I don't just want to live in the 80s, I also recently discovered that the band that did that Black Betty thing also did some cool stuff back in the 70s. I had to turn this up, like I had no choice..!

So I've seen a lot of guys mention they're stuck listening to music from their own youth and not listening to newer bands...theres nothing to say you have to stray too far from what you guys know and love and still find new bands and artists!!


So here's some stuff...




These guys are kinda bluesy and old school. They actually opened for Guns and Roses in the UK earlier this year, absolutely great band!!




Bit more old school rock and roll with a bit more bite to it. The band actually features Doug Aldrich (of Whitesnake fame). Really great band!!




Another awesome rock band with a bit more bite from time to time. The singer is actually the same guy who sings for a band called Asking Alexandria...if you haven't heard them but like his voice, his work with them is a far cry from this band. But again another cracking band with a bit more bite than most rock and roll.


I'll try sharing some more. Spotify is brilliant for it. Start a band you like and then check out Related Artists and the gems you'll find are incredible!!

Easily in my top 10 albums of all time I think, I'd forgotten how many stand out songs there are on it, the Reggae version is different but definitely good.
