Just bear in mind that those torque figures are meant for brand new and perfectly clean threads unless specified otherwise. That is, no your dirty rear axle and used nut doesn't need the book spec and no the used sump plug, non-OEM washer and aluminium threads now covered in oil also doesn't need the book spec. It just needs doing up enough so it won't come undone. I use a 5-25Nm torque wrench more than a big one because the bolts for cam caps, coated in fresh oil like the book says, need to be right. Great big rusty/greasy fasteners on the chassis aren't nearly as picky.

Little update - poked around it with a multimeter, everything seemed fine. Fuses all intact, coils all fine, diodes seem to resist one way more than the other, couldn't figure it. Re-melted all the new joints, added some solder on top of a trace that was bare copper in one corner but appeared to conduct just fine, re-melted a connector pin that didn't look too clever, put it back together again and it didn't work. Turned it off and on again a few times and now it works!? Bloody electronics. I look forward to it failing just when I really don't want it to..

Have you tried it since you did this? Did it make any difference? There is talk of the same mod all over the TRX forum but I can't help but think that by the time it's got all the way to being a spark at the plug it maybe just doesn't matter.. Plus I don't want to chop any wires.

I'm pretty sure my MC26 CB250 never had the heater, just a cap over where it should be. Ridden through all conditions that the UK could throw at it and never suffered carb icing, I never noticed the lack of heater in any way.

When I was getting the rust off the CB250 (project still pending) a wire brush wasn't really enough, if you have a flap wheel to hand for the particularly crusty bits it'll be useful.

Indeed, at the risk of having to argue with people who don't really understand how a sealed chain works, oiling a chain is mostly about making sure there is a cushion between the rollers and the sprocket - a large amount of "chain stretch" is actually caused by wear on the sprockets that effectively make the sprocket smaller. Fit some new sprockets to a "worn" chain and you'll be amazed at how far forward the chain adjusters will be. This coating to protect the sprockets from the chain makes perfect sense but I do doubt it'll be any good. Maybe in another 10 years eh?

By the way the 6 bed mansion can be a cave house if it helps you out, all I ask is for all services to be connected and at least 50mbps Internet (you probably know it better as 50,000,000 baud). Hmm yes, certainly "mixed" But some googling does suggest that it might be people not reading the instructions on the can, the complaints do seem to echo those in the reviews. I also see this Simoniz stuff gets some awful reviews too, can so many people really be getting it wrong? It does actually seem possible! The Simoniz can be had from Euro Car Parts too which makes it a very reasonable price though its petrol resistance seems up for debate. ECP do also sell some specifically petrol resistant lacquer but that product is completely unknown/untested.

If you desperately need someone to lead these little trips out in exchange for decent full time pay, food and private lodgings then I reluctantly offer my services. I might even manage to tighten the chain sometimes to save you some money on the servicing costs
