DG Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Right I reckon we should start thinking/planning the proposed trip that some of us were gonna do this year. If we start now we could raise some cash for a charity and get the site some more publicity. Once again who's up for it?? Quote
techno Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Got any info as to how long, ruffly when next year etc? Quote
Guest Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I THINK MINIMUM WOULD BE 3 DAYS1 day travel to Jon and camp over night.1 day travel to Lands and camp over night1 day travel back home Could do a Fri, Sat and Sun Quote
The Jade Mongoose Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Sounds like fun. Anyone done this length of ride before? RAC routeplanner says 18 hours of solid chugging. Drove 12 hours once (Kendal to London and back) in a day and was knackered. Maybe 2 days for the actual ride? The only drawback for me is that from mine to JOG, to LE then back to mine would cost about £250 just in fuel. Quote

yorbandit Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I can see the point of the ride lads but why race from one end of country to other take a few more days and see some of the country ?????????? Quote
Guest Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 (edited) Just from mine to JO'G is 10 hrs!I think a two day trip is more realistic, and more fun because it's another night's socialising Edited December 8, 2007 by Anonymous Quote
chicane Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I'm about half way so if its tents they can be pitched here no probs, plenty of room and hard standing under cover for the bikes + workshop for running repairs. Also got a 2 bike trailer if we need itReckon 1 day 'to', 2 days for LEJoG and 1 day home. Am up for it, dates dependant tho Quote
Stu Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 i recon a long weekend would be better set off friday return on monday Quote
Guest Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I quite agree, Roy. I think that two days is the minimum sensible target time.Just calculated the journey using TomTom's fastest route. Distance 839 miles, time 15h 11m (average speed 56 mph). Whilst I would like to do the journey, it would have to be by car - so would be able to provide some sort of support service perhaps?(Just worked out the likely fuel costs for the whole trip, home - JoG - Lands End - home, 1758 miles, £111.75.) Quote
chicane Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Think I calculated my max total costs for the trip at £650 but that included 3 nights B&B Quote

I rode from Just North of Barcelona to Folkstone ....bout 30 hrs I think Quote
Guest Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Ooooo I did nod off on Euro Tunnel though Quote

techno Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Well I mentioned to msT about going and she said If i can go away for a few nights!Like she had to ask theres the door so If all logistics are ok i'm in...I have a problem with tents tho!Shes now booked for 2 shows in London feck she dont mess about Quote
DutchMick Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Went from Rotterdam to Florence about 850 miles. Took us two days about 18 hours in all. Its having to stop every 2 hours or so for petrol and a fag that uses up the daylight. Stayed overnight in Luzerne, Zwitserland, highly recommended if you ever get the chance. Though I think its a little out of the way for JoG to LE. Quote
queen bodecia Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 No chance. I think the furthest I can ride is Skeggy! Plus the cost/time off work factor is out of my league. And I don't do tents. But hey, I can support your endeavours from the comfort of my sofa... Quote
Guest Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Ahhh the joys of miscalculating your journey time home from France 35degC it said roadside in Dijon and from there we stopped only for fuel and the 2 hour ferry ride ,Was back home in Anglesey many, many hours later. Dunno how everyone else feels after a mamoth ride home but trying to sleep after it is hilarious.......just keep seeing roadsigns coming at you out of the darkness Quote
Guest Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I'm definitely up for it.If I have enough experience by whenever we do it I'll ride, if not, you'll have to argue over who has to take me pillion. Quote
DG Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 Long weekend sounds good and obviously when the weather is better!!Stew 64 did it earlier on this year, but didn't travel on any motorways and did it over 3 days. Can't quite remember how long it is, but we can sort that out at a later date. We could just do with getting numbers and a date sorted out! Quote
