Cuts to benefits

I know loads of people who migrate for work. One guy I work with commutes into London from Nottingham every Monday, stays in a cheap B&B for 4 nights, then migrates back up north Friday evening.

Also I regularly get notified about work all over the uk. Its pretty normal for people with specific skillsets to move about - can command a higher rates too ;)

Techno's right though. Done properly a benefits shake up should help everyone, just need to get through the initial shock that some people will have to work!!

As the cap is set at 500 pound a week or 2000 quid a month and thats the cap i really think they should make it lower and make more of the lazy gits do some work instead of expecting hand outs from the goverment, how many peeps on here take home more than 2 grand a month for doing nothing ??????????????? so i really dont care

Exactly. 2000 vacancies in Hull alone. We were on a break in the Borders recently and were amazed to see the number of shops in places like Melrose, Kelso and Peebles advertising vacancies. I know people who due to redundancy from well paid jobs took on cleaning work and even being Santa in a shopping centre. People cannot sit around on benefits waiting for something they fancy to come around. They should work and look for other work at the same time.

The only people I can understand being choosy to an extent are people with children who should be able to work round child care.

There are apparently Metropolitan Police Officers who live in ....... France! They commute and help other police officers meet their commitments by renting a room during their shift work.

Without mentioning anywhere in particular there are numerous places with careers that offer excellent career progression, all it takes is hard work and commitment and the realisation that a tough badly paid job can turn into whatever you make of it.

I do think there are many genuine people who need help. As usual it's the minority that tie everyone else with the same brush.

Who said I was talking about where I live Joe? I was on about jobs elsewhere. Around me there is plenty of work yet I was on about those who are on benefits and cannot find or get work because there is either a valid reason for it or simply because there isn't anything going where they are.

If I got myself a job in Canada I'd happily move there, or Ireland even. I wouldn't care about the travel or visa expenses I'd go none the less.

Where in my last reply had I mentioned anything going in Swansea? And I'm not talking about Tesco. I'm on about where in my last reply had I mentioned there "Is" no work around where I live...

So what are YOUR reasons for not having a job?? able enough to ride bike so assuming physically fit and not visually impaired. Able to work a computer and good grasp of English language so insults and snide remarks aside, a Genuine question, what do you feel is preventing you finding work??

Nothing is preventing me from finding work as I'm applying for jobs every week and yet I don't get any response or in least I did get responses from some employers though for some jobs I had applied for I need a full driving license in order to drive vans or company vehicles. I will be booking lessons soon and will do the test as soon as I can, I should have done it ages ago though at the time I had no need for a car.

Other than applying for jobs I sometimes do off the book work with my father on some weekends at small construction sites doing scaffolding. Have been doing it for a long while now, i'm good with H&S regulations and what not as is my father who has been scaffolding for more than 30 years.

Would I though like to do scaffolding as a career/job? Maybe. So my father says that's where the money is...All I need to do is get to the NCC and do the training and then I'm done...

Of course I should be considering applying for jobs other than construction or engineering so in this case retail and warehousing, have applied for a good few this week so all I need to do is wait for a response.

I also fail to understand the reasons (read excuses) that people come out with for not being able to find a job. Yes I agree to some extent its a tough world right now but there are plenty of jobs out there.

Personally I faced the option of being made redundant about a year ago. My choice was to take a job 400 miles away from home or have no job. As much as I miss being at home every night and get fed up of staying in a caravan for 17 nights at a time.

I love my job and the satisfaction that comes with taking home the best part of 4k a month helps a lot.

I am not highly trained or skilled. I have a few decent Gcse grades and a couple of as levels. I left school when I was 17 it's not been easy but never once has sitting on my arse at home doing nothing been an appealing option to me, even at the times when I knew I would have been better off if I had.

Although i am young i would like to input my thought's on this matter.

I'm almost 21 and am currently in a secure job, Before i landed this job which is min wage, and rather shitty to be honest (work with mass batteries in a recycling place which can let of some nasty acid..... and some little shocks from battery's, and what people put in the tubs at supermarkets.....)

Anyway before this i used to work at a place temporary again for min wage, but a job is a job, now again before this i had to go to this place once a week while on JSA which i wanted to go to as they "help" you find work, i was there weekly handing out CV's to local company, searching a lot through the week, offering company to work for 2 weeks for free as a trail, i had no luck for months, although i was determined.

I have welding and fabrication qualifications, and also basic mechanic qualification from college, although i didn't enjoy doing it any more i was still looking for work ANYWHERE.

But so was hundreds of other young people around my little town, which ended up clogging business's up with some many applicants and with so little job vacancy it was basically going no-were.

I was Even applying for jobs i wasn't qualified to do, why? because the job center advised it!

I had no transport so was needing public transport which i was willing to do, but within a 10-20mile radius, not because i was lazy or anything like that, but there are certain circumstances in life that will not allow you to do so, mine is a disabled single mother who i love and care for as she did when i was brought up who admittedly does get benefits (disability around £200-300 every 2 weeks? not sure don't really intend to or need to ask)

Now i do not intend to make a bad argument or intend to come out as "racist" but i personally do feel as if the government are to blame, allowing MASS amounts of immigrants coming over due to the fact there home country's are paying peanuts or have a similar lack of jobs going around, we are letting too many people in which in turn makes the population BOOM, and without good English speaking immigrants coming over they have a very low chance of making a business which can employ 20+ people.

Also with the above it seems a very large amount of people who gain the "top" end benefits are not in fact English or even speak good English, again i do not mean to sound racist but if people cannot be bothered to learn the good English to gain a job..... yet even a interview why should they be on the "top" end benefits? yet alone England?

Also you cannot judge the whole country on one city having 1000 jobs going without any-one taken, as some-one could simply post things like this:

It's only one or two days. It's under 16 hours so you don't need to sign off JSA, furthermore it's off the books so no record of it is being kept as I also do not get any income out of it either.

What, you mean you go to work for NOTHING?

Believe me, if the DWP found out you were doing that they wouldn't buy it and you'd be right in the dung. As for benefits, no one objects to those who are genuinely unemployed of sick receiving them, that's what they are there for. It's the very sizeable minority who claim benefits as a lifestyle choice who get people's back's up.

don't forget this is the max ppl can get on benefits not everyone gets the max, infact most ppl get minimum which is age under 25 - £56.80

age 25 or over - £71.70. only ppl that get the max was ones like that philpot that was taken the piss out of the system or ones that really do need it

I don't get paid and nor do I want to be for what hobbles I do. Frankly, I don't give a toss if the DWP finds out.

You don't want to get paid for a hobby? Are you for real? Are you scared that your hobby would no longer be fun if you had to do it for more than a few hours a week which you could pick and choose yourself. So instead you make a concious choice to live off the tax paying hard working people of this country. Is getting up every morning and doing a hard days graft a difficult concept to you.

Grow up, go out to work and contribute to society.

Grow up, go out to work and contribute to society.

Exactly!! you start a thread moaning about benefit cuts, then reveal that you do plenty of unpaid work whilst not really trying too hard to find a paid job!! do you have no self respect?? dont you have stuff you want to buy?? dont you want to get your own place and start living a little??

Come on Zod, there is plenty of work out there, and yet you are still out of work!!

what are you doing wrong???

Hurry up and take a PAID job and start earning some hard cash to spend on bikes and other luxuries..

If I'm allowed y thoughts.......

It's not necessarily the workshy attitude that's the problem with this country, it's the welfare system that consecutive governments kick about as it always seems to be reformed. The Conservatives view the system as being wasteful in its current guise and is counter productive in that it offers no incentive to contribute to society by earning a living. I'm sure we would all like 25k for nothing and not to even lift a finger for it either. Most workers don't clear that amount as a gross income then see what they have disappear with the taxes they pay to fund state spending.

Blame Gordon Brown, he seemed to have the attitude of all things for all people (true Labour socialist), no one should be without a reasonable standard of living, "we'll take good care of you so vote for us".

A reasonable standard of living shouldn't include the luxuries of life, no SKY, no mobile phone contracts for the family, fags booze and scratch cards.

Three things are required in life, essentials if you like ....... food, clothing and shelter. These could be provided for at a far less cost than what some families have gleaned from the state in the past.

Allow new council houses controlled by the councils.

Vouchers for food, balanced meals only please.

Clothing grants (anyone remember them many years ago for school uniforms?)

There seems to be no shame these days for not working and accepting handouts, I was out of work a long time ago in THATCHERS reign and felt as though people could tell and it didn't feel good. Nowadays though you cannot tell the difference with those in/out of work. Some benefit claimants I know of have more in life than I do but my head is held high I can afford for my 2 kids to go to Uni and am debt free.

@ Joe - Where in any of my posts had I mentioned that I am not trying "Hard" to find work huh? Open your f**king eyes and read correctly man!

You may find it easier to get a job if you softened your "attitude" a little. :)
