1999 Yamaha Fazer 600 ignition lock problem

The key once in the ignition does not easily turn the last mm or so to the point where the engine will start. It's getting worse now and can take me about three minutes of trying to get it to turn every time I've used it over the last few days.

Does anyone with a Fazer have or had this problem and if so, do you know a fix?

Thanks

John

Someone else wouldn't be able to turn my bike on because of the key barrel. Its got a nack to it.

I need to pull the top of the key towards the tank, sort of horizontally and turn simulatniously and it turns like new. Although it did take me about 10mins of pushing and pulling from different directions to figure it out.

If I don't do that it jams and takes about 2mins to get by fiddiling.

Spend some time gently pushing and pulling from many directions and turning at the same time and you may find a sweet spot which will work every time - Wd40 may just fix it outright so deffo worth a shot first.

I did the WD40 but it didn't make any difference so I tried the MacLean method and that seemed to work. So by pushing a certain direction and turning it at the same time I can now start the engine in a very short time.

Thank you to everyone for the advice and suggestions.

I have a 2004 FZ6 and have the same problem, WD40 hasn't really helped either.

Would be interesting to know if you solve the problem

I have this problem on my 04 fazer too, although my smart arse mate can always get it turned first time. found mines just a bit fiddly, need to push the key down a tiny bit, but not all the way.

Usually if it wont go, I take it out completely and try again, normally get it on the second go, or start swearing at it till it works.
