maccy Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Can anyone recommend a good ground anchor, After seeing a "bolt cropper proof" oxford chain being cut through like butter, Manufacturers claims mean very little. Has anyone had any experience with them, been put up to the test by attempted thefts, etc..? Quote
Throttled Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 It sadly does not matter what you do, it can be defeated. The aim is to be as big a hassle and deterrent as possible. So in terms of price and size I went with the Mammoth concrete in ground anchorhttp://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/Securi ... chors.htmlhttp://www.bits4motorbikes.co.uk/images/PartAccessoriesImages/Security/Mammoth-concrete-in-ground-anchor.jpg Quote
Ninereeds Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Have a look over in the tried and tested sectuon for reviews, I think theres some in there Quote
YamahaWolf Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 as has already been said, regardless of your security it can be defeated, you just need to make your bike less desirable to thieves. I have an oxford chain and oxford ground anchor, I also put disc locks on both discs. Can't go wrong with Oxford or motrax really. Quote

Stu Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 how is a ground anchor going to stop them cutting through your chain? Quote
mealexme Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 yea, get a Y-anchorhttp://www.saferrider.org/wpcms/wp-content/uploads/Yanchor-bike.pngThere is no chance they will get the anchor out, they would have to cut the chain or remove the wheel. Quote
maccy Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 how is a ground anchor going to stop them cutting through your chain? The point I was trying to make was the manufacturers claims of a chain being resistant to bolt croppers/ hammers are not even slightly true. I see the same claims being made on ground anchors which is why I want to know if anyone has experience with them. Such as seeing marks on them where someone has clearly been trying to break it but its still standing.I like the look of the Y-anchor, seems to be the best option. Quote
whitedevil Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 16mm and 19mm chains are the best to go for as they dont fit in bolt croppers. the Torc Series II Ground Anchor is 20mm or go with the yanchor.Check out almax and pragmasis Quote

Jixerman Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 At my last house I had a Ground Hog 3. The rawl bolts came with a resin bonding paste to secure it well and truly to the concrete garage floor. The bolt heads were recessed and metal caps were supplied to prevent tampering. The chain loop was good and thick. Too thick for bolt croppers and I believe disc cutter proof. Once fitted you bad no hope in hell of getting the thing back out save for gunning the concrete out around it. Good piece of kit, well worth the money and left me confident the bikes were secure. maccy Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Thanks for that.I know that given time any security can be defeated. Just trying to get rid of as many weak points as possible. Quote
KevmeisterNo1 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Hot damn, that looks clean!I'm thinking about one of these but I'm not all that competent at DIY.How big a job is it? yea, get a Y-anchorhttp://www.saferrider.org/wpcms/wp-content/uploads/Yanchor-bike.pngThere is no chance they will get the anchor out, they would have to cut the chain or remove the wheel. Tiggie Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 have a search on google for y anchor, they have a website, think they cost around £70 - £100, wonder how practical it would be to make your own out of scaffold pipe or something similiar?oh and you might need one of these http://www.atlascopco.us/Images/302480_456.jpg Quote
Tiggie Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 just what I was thinking, dont think it would be too difficult to mock up something similar Quote

KevmeisterNo1 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 If anyone is still interested there are a couple of excellent deals on ghostbikes.com where they are bundling a free ground anchor with Oxford chains.http://www.ghostbikes.com/products/reco ... nchor.htmlhttp://www.ghostbikes.com/products/8961 ... chor-.htmlI bought the first one. Would recommend it - the thing is a beast. Only drawback was I had to hire a proper drill to install it as my Black N Decker just wouldn't cut it (if you'll pardon the pun ).Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with the above site.
