My Kawasaki AR 125cc

Recommended Posts

Me and my dad restored his old Kawasaki 1989/90 AR 125cc 2 Stroke and it beats the shit out of any other of my mates newer 4 strokes, with 9Kw, power band and a custom expansion exhaust

That's bike porn to people of a certain age.

They were the THE bike to have when I was teenager.. power wheely tastic.

How much has it cost to put together?

Well it was just bits and bobs, chain etc

It also didn't have the original fairing so dad brought some with carbon fibre vinyl so it looks a lot better

But all togethor about £300 for repairs, tires, chain, brake caliper, battery, fairing, oil, 2 stroke oil, rear drum brakes, spray paint to make it look better ha and new rear indicators

great looking little bike. classic 80's looks!

I prefer it to any of the newer 4 strokes bikes that sound like sewing machines

I've never heard a sewing machine that sounds like my bike

Im riding it myself at the moment on a CBT, Im just waiting for the engine to explode as the engine has done 17,500 miles but tbh it sounds fine and easily tops 90 which is even cooler since its under the legal limit! Not that i try thrashing it to much, 2 stroke oil ain't cheap!! Ha

you cant put a price on 2-stroke fun!!!

Keep the oil rich, and the wost that will happen is you might burn a piston out...

I buy all my two stroke oil from eBay... its lots cheaper than garages...

kids these days on 125cc 4-stroke bikes have no idea what they are missing out on 8-) 8-)

very cool man.

I also get my 2 stroke oil from ebay..

A 1L bottle of Car lube synthetic oil cost me £4.99 :D

I have my varied opinions on 2 and 4 stroke engines..

Prefer the sound and high revving of strokes, plus the fact that they can be modded a lot more..

But hate the annoying task of engines rebuilds..

Where as 4 strokes, I love because they just run forever..

F**cked spark plug, incorrect carb mixtures, and the things still start and run..

My 2 stroke on my Pulse Ghost is very annoying..

Its a fussy engine..

Get a bit of damp in the air and it just does want to stay started..

I remember the TZR250 well, I am an old git remember!

2 strokes have a very different way of working than 4 strokes, no metal valves just a reed valve that is a one way valve for the gases, they need the shape of the exhaust to draw the exhaust gases out of the engine and 2 stroke tuning was always massively about the exhaust shape. Exhausts made by certain people were sought after as it was always considered a bit of a black art!

Small diameter means higher gas flow.
