fullscreenaging Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Help!I've just had a look at taking some preload of the rear as it's a bit to stiff and after consulting my user manual to locate the preload adjuster, seem to made a boob! It's in a bit of akward place a visibility is very poor. Anyway I couldn't tell what setting it was on so I turned it clockwise until it wouldn't move anymore for the lowest setting then turned it the other to get to the highest setting trying to count the clicks/any sign of going onto the next setting. I found it hard to Hear/feel for each notch/setting until all of a sudden I heard clunk. Upon investigation it seems to have gone too far past the highest setting and come off the 'rail' and locked itself in what I believe to be neither on the lowest setting or the highest!!!!! (But I'm not sure)I'm not sure if I can continue turning it anti clockwise as it seem pretty stuck. I don't want to force it. Can anyone tell me if it will continue to turn of is there a cut off point? Also if it has come to the end of its travel is it possible to sort myself? If so how or this going to cost me?Pic below that is in my user manualhttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/02/avyry2us.jpgPic below of situation as it stands. Left arrow is pointing to what I believe to be the cutoff point/point of no return! Right arrow is what I'm am calling the locatorhttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/02/nuvety3y.jpg Quote
Stu Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 just looks to me as though its come off its highest setting and dropped to the lowest although that mark is a bit suspicious Quote
ForestRunner Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Perhaps if you cleaned some of the crap off it you could see what was going on...Not to mention the fact that any crap will interfere with the engagement with the notches that represent each setting in the drawing. Quote
fullscreenaging Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 It's the first time I've been under the bike and noticed it was a bit shoddy! Only picked it up yesterdayYou reckon it can get it with a bit force? Quote
rennie Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Depending on which way round it is either compress the spring(get someone to sit on it).Or take the weight off it. (lift the bike)You should then be able to get it back onto the scale.Looking at the state of it I'd be more concerned whether or notit's working at all rather than trying to adjust it. Quote
fullscreenaging Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Thanks rennie. I'll give that a shot in a bit. Just have to take the missus to Tesco. I'll be getting a cheap toothbrush while I'm there too! Quote
Stu Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 the weight needs to come off it it will make it easier to turn but not a lot give it a clean and a spray with WD40 too Quote
Joeman Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 If you've turned it off the end of the threads you'll need a spring compressor to squash the spring and allow you to lift the ring back onto the thread.Be tempted to just take the shock off to do it. Quote

Clean em up, take the weight off the back wheel, and start adjusting!! Quote
fullscreenaging Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Cheers for all the input guys. I didn't get a chance in the end. I will give an update when I've had a chance sort it. I will definitely be giving it a good clean underneath! Quote
megawatt Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 What they said. First , scrub it clean and apply WD40. Try to get weight off shock and continue turning it. If no joy, use spring compressors and then turn it. Good luck. Quote
fullscreenaging Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 I ended up taking it in as I don't have the tools atm and the thing had seized! It was took off the bike stripped, cleaned and greased. All sorted now ready for the nice weekend we are promised! Quote
