m-lynch07 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I have a 2006 suzuki gsf 650 bandit and was debating switching to clip on handlebars for a more aggressive riding position. Has anyone switched them and are there any differencesThanks Quote
Chrissb6 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Its possible but it do's not stop there, you will probably need to seat and foot pegs moving back to make it comfortable. I would suggest leave it as it is, or change the bike Quote
m-lynch07 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 I would probably change the rearsets at the same time. Changing the bike is not an option anymore for a while. That's the main reason I was wondering about swapping Quote

m-lynch07 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 If only I could. Was well on the way to buying a super sport by June. Due to financial issues that happen to come up at the worst time I have to stick to the commuter styling which is Ok but not really a whole lot of fun for country roads for me Quote
Tango Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The only thing you'll need to watch are things like cable routing and length.....and also wiring routing and length.....and make sure that on Full Lock your hands aren't trapped between the bars and the tank...... Quote
m-lynch07 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 I think cable length will be the main issue. Just depends on how the clip ons are positioned I guess Quote
Tango Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I think cable length will be the main issue. Just depends on how the clip ons are positioned I guessSome clutch and throttle cables have elbows on them which can cause tight bends and trouble routing them if non-standard bars are fitted.....although, companies like Venhill do cable kits....so you can make cables to fit different configurations..... m-lynch07 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Thanks for the help. Much appreciated Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 dont forget the problem of steering lock and bars hitting the tank and if its a fiared model you might have to make new cut outs in the fairing best leaving well alone in my opinion Quote
Bonniebird Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 It's interesting that the Bandit accessory websites don't seem to have any clip-ons - could be because of an issue with them not clearing the tank. How about low bars as a compromise? Quote
mattycoops43 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Reverse your bars! Turn them upside down, it's what the old cafe racer boys did and it works. Quote
Tango Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Or fit Ace Bars....that's what I had on my RD350 many moons back...... Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Reverse your bars! Turn them upside down, it's what the old cafe racer boys did and it works. And less of the 'old'........ Quote

m-lynch07 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 I was thinking clip ons as they are longer than the regular bars so should have clearance (just guessing) I'll probably compromise and just get a different set of straight renthal bars so no changes will need to be made and clearance won't be an issue Quote
m-lynch07 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 Like this. I have the naked bandit so it should be very similar Quote
m-lynch07 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 These are on an sv but mine is very similar. Top yoke is flat like this on mine Quote
