fullscreenaging Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 For the extra £30 I would go for PR3s. They will last longer. Quote
Joeman Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I'll be getting some pilot road 3 soon, we like to push on, I've had a blade my mates run r1's and a gixxer thou and use sport touring tyres without any concern with handling.I would say these days there more than enough and perfect for today's roads. What price difference is there between 3 and 4's? Pretty sure I have PR3's on my S1000RR. No problems with them so far Edit: this bloke seems pretty impressed with PR3's too.http://geoffjames.blogspot.co.uk/2012/1 ... w.html?m=1 Quote
techno Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Got some pr3's fitted today so I'll see how they are. Quote
Mr Fro Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Going to do a couple of hundred miles on the PR4 tomorrow - probably in the wet so standby for an update... Quote
Fozzie Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I know a friend of mine couldn't wait to get the Dunlop's off his r1.Fact is on all sorts of bikes pr3's haven't had a bad word said against them. Depends which Dunlops he had!I've heard plenty wrong said about the PR3... Some things includeFront tyre is too soft and flexible, under hard braking it spreads for added grip as it should but it's a bit excessive so there is a feeling of lack of control. Some people who have fitted them to bigger bikes report the front feels a bit vague, these are mainly Blackbird/VTR/YamFJR/Kwacker ZZR riders. The Dunlops I just fitted are thought to be one of the best for sports bikes on the road. Both magazine reviews, as well as track day riders say on track and on the road they are an outstanding tyre.Got the PR3's on the SV so I can compare roughly.I'd say the PR3's are a good tyre, they last ages, they grip well and they just do the job very well. But I'd say the Dunlops felt better at speed, and seemed to heat up just as quick as the Michelins! techno Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I had a prod at the front tyre and did notice the flexibility tbh, but can't really say till I take them down my test road in anger They will have to beat my old bridge stones tho for handling otherwise they will be the only pair I buy.But I know the main thing about tyres is what they do to your head and that's why we all choose different, if it didn't have an effect we'd all be on the same. Tango Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Had PR3's fitted to the Speedie last summer.....so far I'm happy with them although I've not really used them in anger yet.... One strange thing though is that the bike feels like it's on a knife edge.....hard to describe really.....but it may be down to the profile......nothing bad, it's just a strange feeling..... Thing is that some tyres suit certain bikes whereas they don't suit others.....all to do with the steering geometry and weight distribution and such like......so you can only tell if you like a tyre when it's fitted to your bike......
