MissB Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Many people at this year's bike rallies are falling victim to theft. If you are attending any rallies at all this year please be warned that over the last 3 weekends at 3 different rallies in 3 different parts of the country, including last weekend's ‘Into The Valley', there has been a group of thieves who are emptying tents during the early hours of cash and phones. Their techniques are varied but it appears the most common ones are to shake your tent and call out something like 'Dave are you in there'. If they get a response then they leave but if not they go in and steal your things. The other technique is to just target very drunk folks who don't wake up or notice their tent being unzipped. They sometimes use diversion tactics as one person creates a scene whilst others rob tents elsewhere. Sources seem to indicate the culprits speak with a foreign accent and most likely are not bikers themselves at the rally. Please make sure that when you are away from your tent, ALL valuables are locked in top boxes or kept on your person. Also, when you do go to bed, make sure you sleep with your head nearest the door and valuables in your sleeping bag / pockets. Ladies should avoid camping at rallies alone and try to travel with a group of friends. So PLEASE keep your wits about you. And if you catch any of this scum you have permission to string them up by their balls...Enjoy the biking season whatever you do. Quote
littlecat Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 i pity the ones that get caught not the most sensible place to be looting, a field full of hairy scary pissed up bikers....miles from anywhere, in the dead of night......no one to hear the screams Quote
littlecat Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 and id have to disagree on your warning to ladies not to rally alone.... I have found bike rallies to be the one place where you can be reasonably safe, guaranteed to make friends, and most likely looked out for by surrounding bikers. usual rules of caution apply, but theres no more reason for a woman to avoid rallying alone than a man Quote
MR_W Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'm a biker and ice hockey player...Tough luck for them if they pick me Quote
Zipster Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'm a biker, 6'2", an ex rugby player and I'm ex forces but most importantly I can snore louder than the best of them. My tent won't be touched as long as I'm asleep!! Lol Quote
MissB Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 I'm a biker and ice hockey player...Tough luck for them if they pick me I used to play ice-hockey does that count?...and I lift heavy weights...And I do go to rallies by myself but I do tend to meet up with friends at the rallies Quote
Chrissb6 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Bikers as a norm look out for each other, l've got no worries with biker camps at all. Big big rallies concerts and the like on the other hand bring in the opportunist and the pro's. We were camping in Spa Belgium for the F1 the other year, a bunch of campers were robbed of there wallet and passports whist asleep in the tents so l know it can be done!! As said, keep your valuables out of site and safe. Littlecat is right, being single on your own camping at rallies is not an issue, if your anything like a social person you normally end up meeting and making a bunch of new friends. Hence why we have the TMBF rally which hopefully we will be able to attend this year. Quote
Chrissb6 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Copied from another site but worth posting heads up!Thefts from tents at Biker eventsPosted on 12:06pm Monday 19th May 2014 In the past few weeks there has been a few reported thefts from tents on the Biker circuit. It appears that the perpetrators follow drunk people back to their tents, wait until they fall asleep, pretend to have an argument outside the victims tent, then one enters the tent and routes around to find cameras and wallets, while the other keeps watch. These unscrupulous thieves are mainly looking for top of the range phones and money, as others have found wallets the following day on the field with cards still inside. It seems they are watching people as they takes photos at the event with a 'fancy phone camera' and then target these people when they head off to their tents, await for them to 'pass out' intoxicated and then whilst they are in a deep sleep, enter their tents to steal their mobiles and wallets. Another 'technique' is to shake a tent and call out something like 'Mark are you in there?'Pete Walker, organiser of The Farmyard Party said "The best and safe way to store your phone a purse/wallet is at the bottom of your sleeping bag, simply throw them down to the end of the bag and the thief wont risk putting him/her down there to get at your stuff. Never leave wallets, purses, phones or money in your tent whilst you’re away from it. If you can, meet your camping neighbours and watch out for each other."We urge people to be more vigilant until these pesky thieves stop targeting Motorcycle events! Quote
