MitchCBR Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Last night on my bike as i was approaching a junction in 3rd, i shifted down and the gear pedal wouldn't go any lower so i though it was in 1st and i stalled going round the junction (new rider too so not a lot of experience). i found out that the problem is when i shifted down the pedal didn't lift itself back up for me to change down again and had to manually lift the pedal back up to shift down into 1st.what could the problem be for this? (hopefully not a strip down as i don't have a clue what to do!)Cheers in advance. Quote
Tango Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Welcome to TMBF mate......pop over to the newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys.....they're more likely to help if you do this first.... Anyway.....sounds like the lever or rod are catching on something.....kneel down beside the lever and move it by hand and see if the mechanism is catching on something.... Quote
MitchCBR Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 Cheers mate! ill give that a go when i get home.ill introduce myself now Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 If it is not catching / being restricted externally, it will be a dislodged or broken return spring under the cover. Quote
MitchCBR Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 i havent properly looked at it yet, as its not road worthy anymore :'( but i think it might be the return spring... when i nudge it the slightest it springs back up! Quote
fullscreenaging Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 125s are notorious for not going into 1st gear easily. Quote
eastanglianbiker Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 could be the shaft needs lubricating where it passes through the engine casing there could be a build up of crap in the casing stoppingi it returning properly Quote
MitchCBR Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Found the problem!the gear pedal bent inwards for some reason and has been getting caught on a nut the whole time...Thanks guys!! Quote
