Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Have no idea about the DB my bike puts out but fancy a brands hatch evening... but I don't fancy getting there and it to fail noise.Anyone have an idea on this weather it will pass or not from an experienced guess...? (I know it's not conclusive). If the video doesn't do it justice... imagine taking off your end can and running the engine. It's like that!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvn6gyyPFS8 Quote
adekeys Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Noise limit is 102dB static and 92dB on a drive bySome days are increased to 105dB but depends on organiserSome dates for the future http://www.brandshatch.co.uk/trackdays/bike-calendar.aspx?circuit=bh&trackDay=trk&trackTime=all&submit.x=42&submit.y=12Did seem pretty loud but looks like your in a confined space too which doesnt help. Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Cheers Ade, the thing is... 102db means nothing to me at this stage since I've never tested an exhaust for sound so don't actually know what 102db sounds like Quote
adekeys Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 MMmmm hard to tell,I would edge on the side of its probably too loud.Been to alot of events at brands and dont even think the bsb were that loudYou could always get a 'cheap' meter from ebay or this one at £20http://stage-gear.co.uk/sl2000-sound-level-meter-st85-a-8217-a-8217-weighting.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=CjwKEAjw4-SrBRDP483GvreDr2ASJAD5sCIuPeZ4R-zihqGiqRzTyhW9viSpanb4HOYPEpnpMy2VLhoCMrTw_wcB At least it would give you a ball park figure and save the money paying for the trackday Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Have you got a smart phone? There are some apps you can download, not sure how accurate they are but it'll give you a rough idea. Just search the app store for decibel meter and should bring something up. Quote
Joeman Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 To give you some idea, when i was at brands a few weeks back, i think the bloke said my stock pipe tested at 92db at 55000rpm static.and an increase of 3db is double the level. Quote
Mr Fro Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Bear in mind that you'll be revving to 5.5k for the noise test...The straight through can on my ZXR is 105dB which is boarder-line or fail for most places. I would recommend having a dB killer on standby because it's a sod to pay out for the day, go all the way there and get told to sod off because you failed noise test. Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Cheers chaps. Fro man - I have baffles for the Toce but an R1 owner of the same system said it's almost useless at nullifying the sound level. I'll use the app as suggested and see what it's like on that a 5500rpm in an open space on Saturday and go from there. If it's under, I have hope, if over then I'll probably just forget the idea. I can't really see it passing if they've set limits for loud exhausts though and won't take the chance of paying out and then not getting in. Quote
Mr Fro Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Now Phil, I'm not suggesting anything whatsoever but...I've never been to a track day where I've been asked to provide any sort of proof that I'm actually booked on it at noise test.I roll my bike off the trailer, make sure it's mainly alright, start it up, stick on my leathers and roll off to the test. Then it's a little sticker on the front of the bike when you pass, park up and dawdle down for sign on, briefing and wristband handout. That's all I'm saying. Quote

The way, you can help me set up my bike... the same way you set yours up Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 found this from another forum about the Toce and R1:"you'll need ear plugs.you'll never get on a track day with them (imo that's what it's all about)" Ah well. Quote
CGD217 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 If you aren't far from Brands go down and get noise checked when you can, just mention you want to book but you aren't sure on how loud it is. I doubt they will have much of an issue with it.Someone I watch on YouTube went down to Oulton (another MSV circuit) and they tested his bike for him. Quote

cockercas Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Phones only go to 93db.Just ride to any circit and ask to be noise tested. They will do it for you.Ive took a mates bike when i had a day booked and got it tested. Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Yeah the original plan was to go brands hatch... it's not too far for me so could make a rideout of it....won't hold my breath though. Quote
Stu Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 are they a straight through pipe with no wadding in at all? Quote
rob m Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Go to the trackday and if it's too loud then go home. If not, then do the track day. Quote
A40man Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 are there any harley riders on here? if there are then no offence but how do they get away with the exhaust loudness for an MOT? Quote
Guest Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 are they a straight through pipe with no wadding in at all?Correct. Gutted my cat too to make things even more spicy Quote
Stu Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I wouldn't even bother going to get them tested as they won't pass noise testing! A mate had an 08 R1 and he would only just scrape through with just a set of race pipes on! Quote

What an engine reving at 55000rpm Have you stuck a jet engine on joeman? Quote
