Guest Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Ive put together a little planted aquarium for on my computer desk.. it doubles up a a desk lamp.I only have access on the wall to a single plug socket and so have used an 8 socket surge protected extension - this also has my computer and my little mission amp plugged into it. The issue Im having is that when the heater in the tank clicks off.. its sending a god awful buzzing noise through the amp.Is there any way of stopping this.. my knowledge of this topic is very limited so 'searching' has proved fruitless. Guest Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 its definitely the heater.. this has only been added in the past couple of days and the noise appeared with it. its like the thermostat is taking a few seconds to fully turn it off.. the noise starts and ends the second the light on the heater goes off. its just a bit irritating.. the heater is only needed in the winter. another few months and It wont come on at all. ive had things like this happen in the past and just moved things round on the ring main. from one socket to another. I cant do that in this case. Quote

Tango Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 It depends on whether the noise is travelling through the mains or is being radiated from the heater control.......If it's coming through the mains you'll probably need some kind of filter on the supply lead to the amp........If it's being radiated, then you'd need some kind of screening to the cabling and amp. Does the sound input lead to the amp run anywhere near the mains lead for the lamp aquarium thingy? Rerouting it may help. Quote

Not the one thats causing problems.. though its largely sorted now.Its a 30 litre nano that is going to house snowball white pearl shrimp.
