samsung mobile phone users

need a new phone if my htc is finished. Don't want htc any longer, don't want apple and windows phone. looks like samsung is the only option, doesn't it? any thoughts on the model?

thinking of getting it off ebay second hand.

will be heavily loaded with apps (heavy email and IM user, multiple navigation software), need a reasonable good camera and above average screen size - probably the main reqs. Don't really want to spend £200+

My Nexus 5 is doing OK. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of a microSD slot.....The battery life can sometimes be a bit short, but other times it's OK. Not so many accessories available for it.....but the main ones like screen protectors and cases are ok......

just moved from windows phone back to samsung s6. great phone does everything i want it too and more. 32gb memory no sd card slot though. s7 supposedly has one.

the sony Z5 is an excellent phone... was a tough choice between the two.... but missus has the s6 and after playing with hers for a bit realised i should get one.

That's a good reason to get a Nexus device. The updates you get for Samsung's have all the Samsung specific stuff in them. Nexus devices get pure, unadulterated android direct from Google.

Updates improve android devices not make them worse.

If you want a cheaper android device you can go for a decent lesser known brand, it's worth looking at either Wileyfox or Oneplus. Tempted to get the Wilefox myself but think I will pre-order the new LG.

This is why my friends end up rooting their samsung device to remove the bloat. But it can void your warranty

I don't understand the Samsung hate! I have been with Samsung since the i9000 (the S, or what I suppose could retrospectively be called the "S1"). I have found that from the S4 onwards, they've got better. I currently have the S4 and I'm going to upgrade to the S7 soon.

To get the most out of them, you need to root them and keep ontop of upgrades and the firmware. Easy to do with Odin (google it) and quite fun if you're a techie like me. Just don't brick it. I know someone who's teenage son bricked his brand new S3 straight out of the box, invalidated the guarantee on a £300 phone before he'd even used it once (facepalm).

As someone who got his first mobile phone (a housebrick sized thing) with his first graduate job in 1996 at the age of 22, I find modern phones an absolute wonder, regardless of how slow they might sometimes be. In those days there was one single mobile phone shop in the whole area and you hand-picked your preferred mobile number out of a book. Texting took forever, but it didn't matter, because almost nobody else you knew had a mobile phone!

Yes the oneplus is a good alternative to the Nexus devices.

I was considering buying one. But I do love the fingerprint reader on the 5x.

This is an important consideration. I found the early Samsungs would go flat very quickly, but the S4 was pretty good and my wife's S6 is even better. I'm getting the S7 soon and that is reported to be better still. As regards bloatware ... root is your friend I insure via a third party, cheaper than Vodafone, so rooting doesn't invalidate the guarantee (it would if I went with Vodafone insurance).

I rooted my old samsung cause I was fed up of the bloatware. You shouldn't need to root and change it drastically from what the manufacture intended to get it working quickly in my mind. Stock Android, or cyanogenmod for me. Although I have heard good things about OxygenOS. Also, Samsung screens tend to give me a sore head. I find them far to vibrant or something.

Sony phones are rather nice if you don't mine the sony apps being there. Bit less intrusive than Samsung I found.

I had a s3 and it was good for around 1 year, then it started going down downhill, battery was crap and apps were incredibly slow and the screen started to darken. I've had my Sony z3 for almost 2 years now and it's still almost like brand new, if I don't use it alot a get 2 days battery! Which is good for todays phones.

I would avoid Samsung from now on, having to charge the battery twice a day isn't for me!

All I want is a phone that makes and receives calls, connects to my car and which allows me to send the occasional text and take the occasional photo.

The Samsung range has always started off OK and then very quickly gone belly up, and even after having it looked at under warranty, it is not long before it plays up again. That is why I hate Samsung.

At the moment it has now gone into requiring charging twice a day, so just as well I have an in car charger. It is a total piece of crap.............

I do not want or use internet on the phone, I do not need or want loads of apps, I just want a simple phone that does what I want from a phone well.

My first car phone back in the late 80's took up half the boot of my car, but at least it worked reliably
