nicklucey Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Got a leaky fork that I noticed for the first time after riding back from work today, bike had been out in the heat, could this be it? Guess I'm off to the garage... Quote
Stu Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 it would certainly make the oil thinner which could lead it to leaking easier Quote
Guest Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 They shouldn't leak, they are probably close to worn and like stu says the oil is thinner when warm.Need replacing soon Quote
Stu Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 its probably more coincidence that its started leaking on a hot day to be honest Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Plus the air pressure inside the forks will rise with temperature. Console yourself that they were shagged anyway. Quote
Guest Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Never happened to me......and I've been caught out in temps of up to 46c!What did happen a couple of times on a Fazer was the ignition key got stuck in the barrel due to the metal expanding. So wherever I went I couldn't leave the bike unattended. Hoggs Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Ah crap one of mine is a bit sketchy. I got new seals and picked up some second hand forks as it turned out a previous owner thought a vice and sharp things were the best tools for removing stuff but hoping the new seals hold up for a bit longer as I'm sure changing the forks will result in me swearing and probably cutting all my knuckles Quote
Mr Fro Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Hoggs - there's a place in Luton called pitted forks that rechromes tubes and are apparently quite good.I'm down to the brass on mine so will likely be sending them off when they start leaking. Maybe we can get a bulk discount. Quote
nicklucey Posted July 19, 2016 Author Posted July 19, 2016 Is it worth having a go at doing the seals myself? Quote
Stu Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Is it worth having a go at doing the seals myself? If you have the tools then why not Even if you don't have the tools you can buy them cheaper than what it will cost to pay someone to do it Quote

Annoyingly my forks are in good condition chrome wise they are just very square in the places the knob head put them in the vice Picked up some shiny ones for 30 squid off ebay (guy had bought a banger Ninja, took the engine out... to put in his racing lawnmower! and was selling the rest of the parts!)Do they just do forks? nicklucey Posted July 19, 2016 Author Posted July 19, 2016 Is there anything I should be aware of that can go horribly wrong? Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 You can get the thru8ng eliminator misaligned with the navo sensor which will stop countersteering - otherwise you should be OK. Quote
