I've been a little disappointed with the performance of the brakes on ny 2014 triumph explorer. It's only now and again and after trying a few different bikes.

Any advice on ways to upgrade the brakes? Are there aftermarket companies like you get for cars?

try different pads to start with :)

Cheers Stu, and I've just been reading about upgrading the brake lines?

Braided hoses are normally the first thing. They make quite a bit of difference, giving you more bite and more precise control.

But you may already have them fitted, and I don't know what you can do easily after that.

You only really need to think about lines after a good few years when they start to give a little.

Swapping out the pads for quality items can make a world of difference and it's quick, easy and relatively cheap. :-)

... Yes the guys above are right. Better pads are the place to start.

I would say they are a rubber hose but could be braided with a black plastic. Will look into it tomorrow.

Cheers for that mate. Will look unto it when the wife goes away and I can get shinny new things delivered. :thumb:

I wouldn't bother on a 14 plate bike

I would change the pads first as someone may have put some cheap ones in!

and whilst in there I would give the calipers a little clean up and make sure all pistons move freely

Anyone got any recommendations for decent quality pads?

I need to replace a set very soon and am wondering if you really get what you pay for - I've always bought cheap ones

EBC HH sintered :thumb:

Yep, them.

They even make Tokico calipers feel half decent.

What is the problem?

When did it last have new fluid?

The order to upgrade brakes is

Pads/lines

Master cylinder

Discs

Calipers

Agreed.

Also try applying the brakes really hard and quickly for a few times - best done away from traffic - to scrub off any glazing.

Galfer HH Sintered and they are not very expensive either about £18 from Calsport
