Motorcycle-Vagabonds Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 What was your best motorcycle trip this year? Our 2016 highlight was riding the Kola Highway in Russia: from St. Petersburg along the two biggest lakes of Europe and the White Sea across the arctic circle to Murmansk and beyond. We started the trip in SPB on 21st of June with the intension to experience the “white nights” full force. For the next three weeks the sun never went down for us. Definitly an exceptional experience!CheersFrank Quote
Guest Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Somewhat more exciting that mine. I didn't have the opportunity to go for any long rides this years. The best one was probably a short weekend trip to Applecross. The Bealach Na Ba is an interesting road. Some cracking sections of road to get there too, particularly around Invergarry. Quote

Stu Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 If I had to pick a best ride it would have to be my long weekend in Germany Staying in Cochem and leaving the luggage made a nice change and less of a drag while riding about Got to love the views in Germany Quote
RantMachine Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Mine was riding cross country to Llangynog, sleeping in an abandoned building, spending a day tearing around an enduro course and an MX track, back to the abandoned building again (by way of the pub and joining the festivities for the last night of the British Downhill Series), then riding back home again via a few green lanes. Great fun and I didn't even cripple myself in the process - or the bike! Nothing like the distances you lot have done, but it's still a fair adventure on a little dirt bike Quote

Guest Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Bealach Na BaBeen planning a weekend trip there with my pedal bike for a while now. Looks awesome. Well worth it, it's a cracking bit of road with a couple of hairpins. It's actually only about a 5 hour ride from me, maybe a bit less even. I quite fancy cycling it too, or even trying the 125. Hell of a climb on a push bike though and it can be very windy! Worth it for the view at the top. There's a campsite just at the bottom of the hill as you enter Applecross which has wooden camping huts. They're heated and all you need is a sleeping bag. Up to 4 can share one. The Applecross Inn is a good wee pub too, the food is excellent and it's literally about 100 yards from the campsite if you take the short cut (steep muddy hill!). Only trouble with that arrangement is the hellish hangover for the ride back over the pass the next day... Quote

rob m Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Best week on the bike was in the Eifel in early September with 4 other fellas from this forum and another friend of ours. Best week I've had away on a bike but also for the laughs we had along the way.http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/Germany%20September%202016/IMG_2058.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/Germany%20September%202016/IMG_2022.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/Germany%20September%202016/IMG_2012.jpgI also had a week in the Eifel on my own in May which was cool.http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/Germany%20May%202016/ACA2A610-4ED0-4460-B88D-37B77C091972_1.jpghttp://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/cruxiform/Germany%20May%202016/77A98F92-9750-479C-B62A-C09AA6A6AC11.jpgBut best ride of 2016 goes to the Pyrenees. smallfrowne Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 I think my only* ride was that one to the Eifel. Rob m, was that photo of the river the same place where we ordered the rustic meals? Where some nutter ordered a hessian bag of hot spuds? Good times indeed. http://i.imgur.com/OorOyhrl.jpgI don't have many photos to offer, and no scenic ones were taken, as the riding was relentless, no time!* Pretty much my only other ride was in January, when I broke a bit of bone. To be fair, we couldn't understand the menu properly. I did laugh Quote

My favorit is north Luxembourg! That beats the German part!CheersFrank Quote
