Dunneyboy Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Hello, Im new to this lark so please forgive my direct approach! I would appreciate some advice concerning the XJ650 Im working on, it has a rusty tak, and I mean holes in the tank where water has eaten throught near the bottom. The biggest is about 2 inches in length. Is it possible to repair this ? If so how. (a friend has suggested fibre glassing the inside of the tank)Will a different tank fit?Should I scrap the lot and start again? LOL. Quote
Mr Fro Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 You might - might be able to weld, silver solder or lead it. Have you got any pics? Quote
fastbob Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 There are specialist restorers who can repair tanks for classic bikes that are more holes than tank but it'll cost big money.I got a tank off ebay recently for an ER5 for £40 and it was in good enough nick for me to paint the rest of the bike to match. I have had a tank silver soldered but the holes weren't as big as two inches.Afterwards I applied tank sealer but to be honest I don't know how long it lasted because I sold the bike. Good luck.
