millchip Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Not quite an old classic, being a 2001 cg125, but am hoping the brains in this thread will share some wisdom.Gently introduced my Honda to the pavement a while back, and the forks are twisted. Still rides, just a bit wonky. Wanting to replace front forks and go for some added suspension. Imagine it's quite a big job, but am willing to make it as bike has sentimental value. Any reccommendations? Wanting to do this myself as am a new rider and want to learn.All advice welcome!Millie Quote
Joeman Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 If it was a gentle accident the forks might just need realignment.Stand in front of your bike with a leg each side of the front wheel and push/pull on the handlebars to force the bars to be aligned. You may need to slacken the retaining bolts a little to allow the forks to move. Quote

Guest Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 It depends how hard it hit. It's pretty easy to remove the fork legs. Each leg is retained by two pinch bolts in the top and bottom yokes. Stick it on the centre stand with some weight on the rear to lift the front wheel. Then loosen those off and give the legs a wiggle to straighten them up, then re-tighten the pinch bolts. Ensure they're properly aligned with the top of the upper yoke.Also check that the stanchions themselves aren't bent. If they are they'll need to be replaced (which also means new fork seals and oil). This isn't a hard job either, the only awkward bit is the damper retaining bolt at the bottom of the fork - you'll need to jam a wooden pole or something down the fork leg to stop the damper from turning with the bolt. Tango Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Agree with above.....chances are the forks have twisted slightly in the yokes......put the bike on the centre stand and put something under the engine to support the front of the bike....then loosen the pinch bolts on the yokes and do as Joeman suggested, front wheel between your knees and twist the bars until they line up with the front wheel...... Joeman Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 So far nobody has recommended an upgrade.When the fork seals on my GSXR started leaking i swapped out the forks for new forks with K-tech internals... Made a huge difference to the handling and of course the seals didn't leak anymore! Quote
Guest Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 There's not much point in upgrading a cg125 fork. It can't go fast enough to really benefit. The crappy suspension on mine does just fine and I rag it about mercilessly. Quote
