Reedyboy Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Hi I have just replaced the starter solonoid and starter motor on my midnightstar 1300 and now it won't run any ideas plz. Quote
JRH Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Do you mean it won't start or it does start but will not run. Quote
Tango Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Welcome to TMBF mate. ......pop over to the Newbies section and introduce yourself to the guys when you can. ...... Probably need a bit more info, mate......do the electrics go off, did you have the tank off, will it rev at all?.....etc..... Quote
Reedyboy Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 It starts but will not run for more than 5 seconds even when revved Quote
Tango Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Do the electrics die?......loose connection on the starter solenoid?.....loose battery terminal? Quote
fastbob Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 I bet this is a choke sensor issue at a wild guess but there's not much evidence to examine. I suggest that you retrace everything you did to the bike prior to the fault occurring . Quote
Reedyboy Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 Ok guys thank you will give it a go Quote
Tango Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Is it carb or fuel injected? ........If injected, can you hear the fuel pump priming? Quote
Reedyboy Posted March 12, 2018 Author Posted March 12, 2018 It's fuel injection I don't think the pump is priming as can't hear it. Quote
Grumpy Old Git Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 It's fuel injection I don't think the pump is priming as can't hear it. Check wiring to fuel pump - have you a voltage meter? Quote
TimR Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 1. Was it working fine before you replaced parts 2 . Why did you need to replace those parts Quote
fastbob Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Hi I have just replaced the starter solonoid and starter motor on my midnightstar 1300 and now it won't run any ideas plz. So how come the starter motor AND the starter solenoid failed at the same time ? If you still have the old starter motor I'll bet that if you open it up you will find that it's full of black dust . If this happens to be the case then it was probably the reason why the motor and solenoid appeared to fail. Remove the dust and buff up the commutator plates with the finest wet and dry paper ( 2500 ) and provided the carbon brushes aren't worn away it will be fine for years. I realise that this doesn't solve the running problem but logic dictates that something you did has brought this about. As previously stated , if you meticulously retrace every step I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it. Quote
