Anyone know how to upgrade the twin headlights on my 2001 zx7r. I was riding with my mate who has a fireblade and his headlight had a good strong white light, he shot off leaving me with a dull yellow light which was so dangerous couldnt see much of the road.

Half the problem with ZX7R headlights is the underspec'ed 5A wiring to the lights and crap dip switch: On mine I wired up a UK headlamp ( 2x 45W incandescent bulbs ) so that the feed to the lights was all 15A cable straight back to the battery and switched by a relay operated from the dip switch. Now both headlamps are on all the time and now its brighter than Euro spec one incandescent / one halogen projector that it came with. Just bypassing the spindly wiring and switch makes one hell of a difference

If you fit higher rated bulbs, they wont fit properly since one tab is slightly different on the 45W bulbs and if you cut it off to make it fit, the 5A wiring will likely overheat and melt the insulation

BTW if you have a projector, it will be a euro spec so the beam pattern is the wrong way around which also wont help. IIRC projectors were never a standard fit for UK but there were so many parallel imports they seem to be quite common.

Relays and fat cables for the win :)
