The Hitcher Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 I have a guy at work who is a "music lover" that I've taken to task more than once for spending more time poking fun at other people's music tastes then talking about what he himself loves. I know which is more constructive. He's the sort of guy who if you mention a song you like is likely to tell you that the band is a sellout (never understood that) or tell you the song rips off some unknown track he knows.Worst kind.....I have a relatively wide taste in music. But at heart I'm an ageing indie kid. Both my kids are musical and have quite differing tastes. Music to me should be inclusive and not exclusive. Just cos you read the NME for 30 year straight doesn't mean your opinion of good taste is any better than the bloke who listens to kiss fm. I’m the same, I have a pretty wide taste in music, I admit I’m personally not a fan of some modern pop music but live and let live, to each their own.U2 is one of the big bands I just don’t like at all but I’d not try and force that opinion on anyone else, and they’re obviously doing something right. xMachina Posted March 22, 2019 Author Posted March 22, 2019 Musical smugness is one of the worst kinds of smugness. It's like when people say a band you like aren't real 'insert genre here' or mock you for listening to a band or genre. Initially it used to wind me up, but then I realised just how much these people are limiting themselves. Or the people who want to quiz you over what colour socks the bass player of the band you just said you like wears... Quote
Liveware Problem Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 Ok I try not to judge other peoples' music taste, but seriously I've found the perfect answer to those that say there's no such thing as bad music: "> Quote
