julesp07 Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 Hey guys,Had a few issues with my Mutt battery since I bought it ~9 months ago. Doesn’t seem to hold its charge for more than a few days. The battery currently in there is “MT battery cb7-A part number 712071” https://secure.bitzforbikes.co.uk/photo/images/supplier/hilevel/products/712071/listing/712071.jpgThinking of replacing/upgrading. Anyone have any recommendations... motobatt? Also very confused over which one I need. Any advice hugely appreciated. Also feel like I should invest in a trickle charger. Again, any reco’s hugely appreciated. And also advice on how to use/how often to use. Thanks again! Quote
dynax Posted May 6, 2019 Posted May 6, 2019 i would check for a power drain on the electrical system, also check out the other thread in the pitstop section for charger/maintainers Quote
julesp07 Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 Ah perfect. Thanks. Didn’t realise there was another section, and don’t know how to move this thread! Quote
Joeman Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Is the bike 9months old? If so, it's the dealership's problem not yours. Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I'm guessing it's the battery that 9 months old rather than the bike.It depends on the history and quality of the battery if it's salvageable. If left to totally discharge they don't survive very well but a lot of batteries come with a warranty so worth checking. There are loads of batteries out there - but don't buy cheap. It's false economy. In terms of chargers - again there are many so I can only tell you what I use. I have a couple of CTEK charger, they do a motorcycle specific one which is fine - XS 0.8. I use that one on the Bobber. The other one I have is more powerful but has a bike setting.I fitted the additional leads with LED indicators that show the battery charge so you can see at a glance what state the battery is in. Personally I leave them connected whenever the bikes aren't in use every day. So the Bobber tends to be left connected all the time. The Honda I connect if I'm away for a couple of days as it has an alarm which tends to drain the battery a bit. Generally if you're not riding the bike an overnight charge once a fortnight ought to be more than sufficient. Quote
fastbob Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Being tight fisted and having a dislike of Optimate chargers because I used to have to sell them , I chose this option. The maintenance charger is from Machine Mart. Just chop off the crocodile clips and get out the soldering iron and heat shrink. Make up a lead for the bike with a female connector and put a male connector on the charger as well as another female connector on the crocodile clips so that you can re attach them when you want.
