Bender Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Right I find the thing infuriating arggggggggNow I have that off my chest I shall begin Tried it a bit back and found it a bit mental, main reason was telling me I could do aviemore to Braemar in 20 mins, its showed the route and missed about 40 miles off it, I thought OK let's go and see how it does, well a mad man on a sports bike could probably do it in 30mins with no regard for his own life, 2 up it was never going to happen, after about 15 miles it decided that it needed to re calculate and own up to its error, turned it off never to use again.Fast forward to being abroad, having foreign Street names thrown at me by Google maps just wasn't working as by the time it pronounced half of them I was past the junction, hmmmm open up Waze, it started out very well, simple clear instructions, 50 feet turn left etc, no names just left right 2nd exit, yeay I thought.Well it didn't last long pulls up to a junction, turn right, Hmmm that's not right I know I need to go left cause the fooking sea will be on wrong side, looks for no left turn sign, nope non, looks at phone it wanted to turn right and then do a u turn at the next junction.Next up, straight up a small very steep hill the wrong way as was pointed out by a mental person at the top , I didn't think much about it being one way as we passed a local bike doing same when we went down.Bloody sat nav on phoneRant over. Guest Richzx6r Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 I use Waze for work most of the time and have only had it once or twice shit itself on a route Quote
Stu Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Learn its flaws and get on with it Not all sat navs are perfect! My zumo 590 gets it wrong occasionally! I always have spoken instructions off! I can't be doing with it in my ear as well as the wife Quote
Bender Posted June 24, 2019 Author Posted June 24, 2019 Live with it I've only used it twice and it's failed miserably lol, I prefer the voice prompt rather than having to take eyes of road, I don't mind listening to the other half.I'm sure I will give it another go and you will know all about it it was better than Google maps for clarity, and maps.me was no better. Stu Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Maybe invest in a dedicated bike unit! I must say they do work better than apps, I don't mind listening to the other half. I will send her your way then Quote
Tankbag Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Satnags will get you a successful route but not always the best route. Every now & then I'll stumble on a cracking road & have to program it on a piece of paper Quote
Marino Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I use TomTom and I like it maybe it’s not the best but working good, most mistakes are my inputs and settings.Sometimes occasionally goes wrong if loses signal but it does get back quickly. All of devices will be confused in some rural areas and in countries where sun doesn’t shine often, that why I still have old fashioned road maps. But last time even road map was wrong, new roads are build this days faster than map can be updated and that does not help much.It is ok in big cities but when it comes out of it Quote
Westbeef Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I only use the audio from my satnav on the bike via bluetooth, and Waze would just stop giving me directions. Had to swap to google in the end, which is a shame as Waze is generally a better app, though Google does own Waze now so I imagine it'll be getting all the good features Waze has. Quote
Stu Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 My sat nav got it wrong today and tried to take me through a closed gate that leads through a farmer's field Quote
