muldoon74 Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Started her up. Hasn't been out/started since 31st March when I failed my MOD1. Unable to ride it due to personal crap and then CBT ran out on 28th April. Got new CBT next Saturday. Anyway, fired up first press, let it run for a few minutes while I had a look over it. Have to say, chain and sprockets look a bit bad. Would take it up to local jet-wash (I stand back front it so as to not blast oils from chain etc) but Pound to Penny I'd bin it when my CBT is out and only 1/2 a mile from home. Not risking it. Will clean and lube tomorrow, check tension and if need be do that as well. Supposed to rain up here on Saturday. Can't believe the weather we've had in may and I haven't been able/allowed to go out even once! Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted May 20 Posted May 20 First thing - I went to visit one of my riding buddies who has just bought a GB350 - what a nice bike it is! I've not seen one in the flesh and I was impressed. A really good looking machine. Second thing - the Bobber is known for poor connections at the battery from new. The earth lead doesn't bolt directly to the frame, there is a small bracket that it connects to which can get paint around the contact area in the factory. There is also a metal plate on the end of the earth lead where it connects to the negative terminal, that also can have paint on it. The first thing I did was to remove all the connections, clean them back to bright metal, add a very small dab of copper grease and I've never had any problems. I've met several Bobber owners with weird warning light issues, random starting problems and display issues. Every single time it's been a poor earth connection at that bracket on the frame. People clean the earth lead but they forget to clean the bracket. Last week I had a couple of times when the bike didn't fire first time, but it would always fire second time. I've just removed all the connections, cleaned them up as they had got really dull, and the bike fires up on the button. I suspect that bracket is a weak point because this is a common issue and every time cleaning that bracket resolves it. Considering it only goes out on dry days and it a fair weather bike I'm surprised how dirty the battery connectors were. My CBF goes out in all weathers and I've never needed to clean the battery connection. 4 Quote
Bianco2564 Posted Saturday at 17:33 Posted Saturday at 17:33 Set up the RGV power valves ,checked carb and oil pump settings and got it fired up. Rode it down the drive, first time it’s moved under power for a year or so. Once I was happy it was ok, I took the Lh engine cover off for a repaint. 8 Quote
S-Westerly Posted Monday at 19:33 Posted Monday at 19:33 Fitted some evotech bits - bobbins and stainless bolts on the brembo fittings instead of the alloy ones. 4 Quote

Thanks, the blue and white is my favourite colours although I prefer the previous year M version styling, also on the GSXR750 M that I once owned. The bodywork on my bike is a Chinese copy, I have OEM parts in the loft. 2 Quote

They OEM panels are not in great shape unfortunately, I do watch eBay hoping the same design will come up but they were only in use for one year so chances are slim. 1 Quote
Bianco2564 Posted Tuesday at 20:04 Posted Tuesday at 20:04 Moving on with the next project now the RGV is back together. Few years ago bought a GT380 engine in bits as a spare for my bike so plan to dry build it to see what’s there. Ive got all the major parts, it will be the small widgets I’m missing. First job on the crankcases is to strip off some gold paint on the upper case. 1 Quote
OmegaSteve Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Removed all the extra wiring from the battery that the previous owners had left in place. Replaced the earth strap and cleaned up all the connections. Doing so has greatly improved the cranking speed on start up. 5 Quote
