Hi I have a 2016 CCM GP 450 Adventure with about 10000 miles on it. It has recently had a factory service. Last week I was on the motorway at about 70mph. I started losing power and speed dropped to 55mph then the engine died completely (didn't notice a lock up). I pulled in the clutch and coasted to a stop. Tried to start it and nothing much happened maybe a weak click or clunk. I guessed it was battery not charging properly and got recovery home.

I checked the battery and it was a bit low around 12v. I then tried to start with a fully charged car battery and jump leads and there was just a clunk and nothing else. All lights etc are still working.

I'm sort of thinking it's something catastrophic, what are things to check and what order.

TIA

Hi and welcome to the forum

I would start by testing the main power circuit to make sure you don't have a lose connection or furred up wiring plugs etc

Also worth checking the engine turns over by hand. Put it in neutral, remove the plugs, use a socket on the front sprocket bolt.

Stoopid question but if you don`t remove the chain wouldn`t it roll forwards and probably fall on him?

Remove rotor cover and use socket on the bolt on the end of the crank may be easier.

Forgive me if I have missed something.

Also a fair point.

Shall we start again lol.

With the engine in neutral use the nut on the end of the crank with the plug out, with it in gear if the back wheel is off the ground rotate the gearbox output shaft  (Front sprocket) If the op cant get covers off for any reason with the bike in gear and the plug out he could try to rotate the back wheel.

Cheers

Ian
