hi all - I've been out of the UK for 20 years, riding big bikes (900c +) all the while.

I'm relocating back home and my old UK licence has no motorcycle entitlement. I'd like to be riding as quickly as possible, but mindful that my UK experience is dated now.

What would you recommend? Going for a test only or doing a DAS training course or something else? I don't want to use my foreign licence for long.

I'd say get in touch with a school, do a CBT and get some feedback on what they think you need to do to pass. They will know what the instructors want to see, and be able to point out any areas that might let you down. They should be able to provide you with just the lessons you need, and focussing on those areas. No need to do a whole one week DAS course.

Bear in mind you'll need to pass all the above

* CBT

* Theory test

and, when you've got those

* Mod 1 (off road: swerve control, figure of 8, slow speed, U turn etc)

and then

* Mod 2 (on road)

So, I'd say your first steps are

* Choose a school. Book a CBT for the earliest date you can do.

* Start learning for the theory test and book yourself a theory test

If you let us know roughly where you are you, you might get some recommendations for reliable schools.

Thanks, I'll be in South London mostly. Am I right in saying the CBT won't be necessary if you have an existing car licence and over 24?

What country do you have a motorcycle licence for? .. You may be able to add it to your UK one.

Philippines - home to tropical days, beaches, and islands galore. I can't swap it for a UK one - probably a good idea considering the driving standards are quite different... but I can ride for 12 months on the foreign licence. But that's not to say I'll be able to find insurance.
