Heated grip repair fail

The heater wires on my left hand grip have gone,  so I thought I'd be clever and re-wire it with new Nichrome 80 0.1mm 38 Gauge AWG 40M Roll 143.9Ohms/m Heater Wire.

Suffice to say, it didn't work.

There's voltage to the supply wires, but absolutely no heat to a single wrap of heater element wire.  They're in the grooves and not touching, pretty certain.

Any tips before I give up entirely?

The link does not take me to any information however, you say you measure 12v across the feed to the heater wire coil. This would indicate a high resistance or an open circuit in the coil. By my calculations, you should have an output wattage of approximately 240W for a 1 metre length at 12V - This would use a current of 0.083Amps.

Disconnebt the voltage and:

a) check the resistance.

b) connect an ammeter in series (set to 1Amp max) and then connect the feed voltage and see what you get.

Thanks both, it was a bit of an experiment really.  Giving up as I've found some genuine replacements for not too much on flea Bay. Bigger problems now as the electrics are dead. The blessed ignition barrel or wires thereto have given out (loose connection,  which quickly became no connection). At least it happened on the drive rather than halfway down the M53 in freezing temps...
