Mick67 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Looks a great trip, making me jealous we spent some time touring around the dolomites last year fantastic place, we stayed most of the time in Cortina d'Ampezzo which gave us a good base. The Ligurian alps looks great esp as the napoleonic route is near so you have just given food for thought for next years jolly. Quote
Gerontious Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 Day off today due to thunderstorms and heavy rain. So just cooked up some breakfast in a deserted beer garden marquee while watching these mad walkers go striding off waving their sticks like something demented. Normal service resumes tomorrow. Wall to wall sunshine. But not today. 2 Quote
bonio Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 You had the rain we had yesterday morning. We stopped for a pee in a dark pine forest in Belgium. The light from my mates headlamp shone through the gloom as from a lighthouse. And all you could see in the beam was hosing rain. Luxembourg today in glorious sunshine. Wonderful roads. Quote
Gerontious Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Tomorrow is set to be great low mid 20s. A lot more comfortable than it has been recently. Currently it’s rather cool and I’m watching a magical display of fireflies. Tiny greenish lights moving through the trees. It’s been great having a day off and just chilling. Afternoon nap In the tent. Off for a ride into Italy tomorrow then moving location probably to the south end of lake Garda on Sunday. Riding strada della forra- which winston Churchill described as the 8th wonder of the world!! I should add that it absolutely tipped down today with a lot of thunder. I stuck the plugs in my ears and had an afternoon nap. Lovely. Now an early night ready for a long luggage free day tomorrow in the Dolomites. Edited June 23, 2023 by Gerontious Quote
Gerontious Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Just downloaded a random circular route from Kurveneldorado. 14 passes. So trying for that today. See how it goes. So it’s this though I’ve reversed it to clockwise. And…. We’re off! 1 Quote
Gerontious Posted June 25, 2023 Author Posted June 25, 2023 Yesterday was quite jolly despite a few delays due to the San Martino Rally which just happened to be finishing. The cars had gone but they were dismantling the infrastructure. Today heading for the south end of lake Garda and staying for the night then tomorrow onwards to the French border and the southern start of the route des grande alps. So that marks the turn for home. (Sigh) again very warm but not as bad as it has been - at least the wind isn’t hot too!!!! currently quaffing: while having a break here: 1 Quote
Gerontious Posted June 25, 2023 Author Posted June 25, 2023 Hot and bothered and just a tad stressed due to traffic and a series of unfortunate event. liquid refreshment And location for tonight, Back to France tomorrow. 1 Quote
Gerontious Posted June 26, 2023 Author Posted June 26, 2023 12 hours ago, Bungleaio said: Looks great, Jack still with you? he is. A yank pulled out and his RHS pannier was torn off. He was not impressed. And the yank, despite watching 100s of bikes go past him in the queue questioned its legality!! Anyway pannier was reattached with bungee cords and permanently repaired this morning- drama over. Going to hit the autostrada to get to France as we’ve had quite enough of Italy. Which is horrendously expensive compared with everywhere else as far as I can tell. Leaving very soon. Lunch stop then on to Menton. 2 Quote
Bungleaio Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 He was lucky to only have a pannier taken off! Quote

Gerontious Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 At last… I feel cold. 9232 feet up. I don’t really have my feet up but a nice deckchair and a stick of rock would go down nicely. 3 Quote
