Simon Davey Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 (edited) My ZZR 1200 came with handle bar risers, and I'm wondering if they're causing the upper back discomfort that I get after an hour or so. I'm thinking they're pushing me back just a little bit more than needed. Anyone else have any similar experience? I appreciate the simple answer is to remove them to see the difference (if any) but just interested in what anyone else has to say. Cheers Edited January 2, 2024 by Simon Davey bad smelling Quote
bonio Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 (edited) Nope, sorry. What your saying is possible. But upper back discomfort could also be caused by riding with your shoulders too stiff. Before you start playing with spanners, it's worth trying consciously to relax your shoulders every 5 minutes and seeing if that makes a difference. Edited January 2, 2024 by bonio 2 1 Quote
fullscreenaging Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Grip the tank with your legs and keep your arms as relaxed as possible. The bike will balance itself and all you need to do is push the bars to change direction. Try to keep your forearms parallel to the road and only very lightly grip the bars (more resting your hands around). This should improve things for you. 2 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted January 2, 2024 Author Posted January 2, 2024 Many thanks @bonio and @fullscreenaging I'm glad I asked now, especially as I've only recently got back into biking, which of course, makes perfect sense of what you're both saying. Cheers. 1 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Humans are very adaptable which is great but that also is a problem if the bike aint right we will just put up with it which just aint the best when the machine can be adjusted. Best way is to get a side picture of you on the bike in a few different positions, upright without touching the bars (like waiting at lights for ages k or parked up, gripping the bars up right in a normal town touring then finally in a tuck. if the bars are too wide or too narrow. kicked out or tapered too much. different seat height can also play a part thses can have an impact of your discomfort. if your discomfort is one side it could also be if the handle bars are not central or if you have old injuries that centre might be wrong for your own psychological issues. 1 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Maybe give it time? I used to drive a forklift truck. Night one was agony on my shoulders. Week one was uncomfortable. By the end of the second week I'd developed muscles in all the right places and it was never a problem again. 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted January 2, 2024 Author Posted January 2, 2024 Thanks guys, I'll keep at it. I think getting photo's would be tricky, I'll have to make do with shop window reflections. 1 Quote
Shepherd Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Can you keep the height but tilt the bars forward a little? Quote

RideWithStyles Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 (edited) Yes but you can get different types of raises that bolt onto them yokes. Fully adjust (vert hor and arch) with bolts to clamp or Ones that adjust on cam lobes there are many choices for you still. the only problem will be if there isn't enough wire or cable length to allow full lock if you have to raise them quite abit. Then less critical but will looking more like fitting ape bars on a sports bike....noice! . Edited January 4, 2024 by RideWithStyles 1 Quote
Simon Davey Posted January 4, 2024 Author Posted January 4, 2024 Cheers @RideWithStyles, I will give it more time, see how it goes. Quote

Those clip ons and yoke will have been designed for the fairing or vice verse. Just bare that in mind @Simon Davey I think after more hours in the saddle you’ll be ok. I think you are just very rusty. Edited January 4, 2024 by fullscreenaging 1 Quote
